Sneakers had a very good first cycle- for her, at least. All pinks where I expected reds and blacks to pop up. 2u last night, 2u skinny this morning, mainly because I pushed out a touch too much and didn't want to re-stick the needle back into the pen to get more insulin before dosing. Still getting the hang of it- the video really helped!

Still whiny in the food department- eats two FF cans in the morning, will eat the 4 oz of chicken I have out during the day, and still insists on another 2 cans of FF at night. So I am taking that as she is still HIGHLY unregulated. She had been down to just 8-10 oz/day in early Feb before she ran into the KCC (kitty crack contraband) gang and shot her numbers sky high and went totally off the insulin rocker. I have the 3 types of FF that are 2% carb- chopped grilled feast, beef and liver feast, cod, shrimp, and sole feast. If her numbers continue to jump I'll switch to just one of those for a few weeks. The chicken is Dr. Lisa's recipe- very raw, barely cooked.

But- one bright spot, she has started peeing less times and her pee pats are smaller. This change was two days ago while she was on Prozinc still, so I can't contribute it to lev. Last time she switched insulins (humulin to prozinc) she started peeing huge amounts more and didn't slow down until she had stopped eating so much.

So... I've joined the club!

Welcome to the club, Heather and Sneakers! :-D
I hope Sneakers settles in quickly.
Looking forward to seeing updates on her progress.

Great! I think you will be pleased with lev over the long haul (well, I actually hope it will be a short haul...) as it produces a steadier curve. I know Beau felt better after the switch. I had thought that he was feeling good after I had him somewhat regulated on vetsulin, but I really noticed the difference after the switch to lev.

Yep, eating tons is a sign of unregulation. Both my guys ate like there was no tomorrow until they were regulated for a bit (couple of weeks). The only comment I have on what you re feeding is that I think you can go with some of the 3-4% FF ones like Gourmet Chicken, Tender Beef and Turkey and Giblets. Unless she is truly very sensitive to carbs (and it isn't an issue with the insulin), those 2% won't matter.

Welcome Heather & Sneakers!

And you're off to a great start. :-D

The uncontrolled eating, sigh, trust me it will get better with regulation. Hadley, who I adopted last October, was an uncontrolled eater for the first 4 months. He was in high numbers for a good part of that time and I couldn't get enough food into him even at 4 1/2 cans of FF a day. He'd attack the other cats for their food and a 4-way food fight would erupt. So I had to feed him in a bedroom with the door closed. But as he got well regulated in February I was able to let him out and eat with the others. Now he's just a big guy who wolfs down his food and stares at the others until they are done and only when they walk away does he mosey ever so casually over to their dishes for a sniff and a lick. He's a whole new cat.

If Sneakers likes liver, I highly recommend the FF Liver & Chicken (beige label) - it's the same carb. range as the FF Chicken, Beef and Turkey & Giblets.

After her dry food run late Feb she has been VERY sensitive to carbs. I was feeding between 2 and 5% and her numbers ranged up to 200 pts and down again based on high or low carb. I don't know how much Dr. Lisa's has in it. The recipe never said- all I know is it is better for her to eat  .

Once I settled on just one kind of food she dropped off of the high roller-coaster within 3 cycles and the Prozinc was showing that it could be effective- just not effective enough. It dropped but stayed in the high 200's ( with a few high blues) to coast up to the mid to high 300's for coming off the insulin.

So I thought I would start the levemir on an even keel so I can get a feel for what she is like with no changes but the insulin. I have 3 cases of 2%. after those are finished i'll work up to 3%. Her favorite is the seafood- of any kind. Liver she is okay with, but doesn't always finish.

I was surprised at her cycle numbers- one yellow (by 4 points, but it is a yellow) and the pinks have been mid to low as well so I wonder if she is getting some little insulin... I don't even know if that is possible. Or, this might be her normal bg levels if the carbs are low enough and steady enough.

Ketones are above a negative but below a trace so will keep up with that as well. As long as she doesn't go past small I will keep her units at 2 until next Friday when I can do a curve either Friday or Sat. Will attempt one tomorrow but might miss the latter hours.
