Strange happenings this weekend.

Friday she started leaving a lot of food, numbers normal for her. Upped her to 23u.

Saturday, left still more food, numbers normal.

Sunday- at maybe 2 oz all morning- TOPS! :O . Spent the day in blue but would go to the plate, sniff, lap a little, then turn away so I figured nausea. So I got on FDMB and found out which Pepcid i needed to get for cats and ran to the store at 3:30- crazy people abounded!

Cut the huge pill into quarters and managed to pill a piece- found out she is MISSING two teeth- the big ones- canine top and bottom- on the left side that were there two weeks ago (I saw them when she was throwing up in the car outside the vets office). She wasn't happy with the pilling but an hour later she ate another half ounce with tons of water, warmed and PC on top. Went out for a couple of hours and came back and she ate about an ounce in tons of water.

Monday morning- woke me up before 3, went to the food dish and wouldn't eat. So I pilled her another quarter- she bit my finger, drew blood (washed, neosporened, and band-aided it before going back to bed). She didn't eat that but did eat it at shot time, plus another ounce. Went home at lunch today- never happens, she hadn't eaten anything, still in blue- tried to pill her so she would eat today as mom can't shoot/feed her tonight and I won't get home until 9PM (there goes those great blues :(). We went 9 rounds and only got an 1/8 pill in her, she tried lapping up some food but didn't last but a few laps. I need to find an inject-able nausea medicine as pilling is traumatic for her and possibly unhealthy for me. She was 160-ish before I tried to pill her and I didn't bother to find out her bg after that. Hopefully i got enough in her she will eat something before I get home tonight.

Oh dear. Maybe her mouth hurts where the teeth came out? Could she have fallen and hit her mouth and knocked them out or broken them? I hate to even suggest this, but she could have had a seizure and fallen off a chair or something? I would definitely get her to a vet to check her mouth. There could be tooth roots/fragments stuck in her jaw still and that would be very painful. So she might need extractions of them and/or pain meds or something. Maybe check around her favorite sleeping places for the teeth.

I have had two cats knock out teeth, that were rotting from FORLs, and it was very painful for them.

I have gotten bitten by Cami a number of times that drew blood. She has the sharpest teeth I have ever encountered and if something gets in her mouth she bites down and just keeps adding pressure. One time she just nicked the edge of my finger and I didn't notice it had broken the skin and it was already getting infected by that night. Neosporin and a band-aid (after a soak in hydrogen peroxide) put it right.

Do be careful. I hope she will be OK and eating again very soon.

I hadn't thought about a seizure. It was just strange that i haven't found them anywhere. She doesn't get up onto chairs anymore and only does on the couch when I can help her up. There is the stool but that is more of a stepping stool to the freezer top and her sleeping perch/feeding station where she stays pretty much 75% of the day.

I managed to break the tablet into 1/8ths last night and got both parts down her but only one part down her her this morning. She did at least eat after that though. 2-3 oz last night, nothing overnight, but ate 3 oz this morning. Pilled her at 4am as I was up and she ate- at this time I just want her to EAT, not caring about fasting numbers and she moved a whole 1 number from 4am to 5am (175 to 176). I left 1oz out this morning for the day. I would do more but she hasn't eaten anything the last few days so it is just a waste to do more. She does like it warm, soupy, and dusted with PC.

She was in the 170's at +15.5, so that was great- 3 hours off I shot 20u instead of 22.5 (yes, into a HALF units!!!), at +4 from the shot she was 250 (rebound as she hasn't seen low blues in a while?) and at normal shot time she was back down to... 170's again. I shot another 20 units instead of the 22.5u just in case as I won't be home but mom will be there to shoot tonight.

As for the injectible... I called my vet and they are like "We don't know of anything like that. What we use you can't have." So I need to find something or at least the brand name so they can look it up if i need a prescription.

My Krogers doesn't have any if it is OTC, I wonder if Walmart or Walgreens would. Do I need a prescription for it?

Finger is tender so tonight I will soak in HP when I get home after school and wrap it up again. Got another nick in the morning hours I think.

Re: Sneakers 2-4- blues for two days!

She is feeling better- ate on her own yesterday, last night and this morning- but not a whole lot. Around 6 oz and I hear that is a normal amount for a cat. Maybe she figured if she didn't eat I would pill her...

And she spent most of Monday and Tuesday in blues- I'm so proud of my girl :-D

Heather a quick search of Famotidine injectable says that it is for IV use only, so you aren't going to be about to a) get it without a script and b) use it on her.

Have you tried pill pockets? I can't remember if I gave it to Beau by pilling him or in a pill pocket. He is easy to do both and I generally make the decision based on the size of the pill - like his methimazole is 1/4 pill bid and that is a tiny piece so it goes in a pocket (piece of a pocket, actually). His Diltiazem is much bigger so I pill him with that.

Good that she is eating on her own. Yep, 6 ozs is the rough average for a cat, but it's really by calories. Dr. Lisa's formula is" cat's weight X 13 + 70, so a 10 lb cat needs 200 cals and most FF cans are 100 cals each (3 oz), hence the 6 oz average. You should go by Sneaker's weight. Also, for safety, if they aren't eating they need half their daily caloric need to prevent fatty liver. I have had to force (syringe) feed Beau during a couple of his ptitis bouts. And I had to feed Jeddie with a kitten bottle because he couldn't eat on his own at the end. Still, it's easier if you can intice them to eat by warming their food, sprinkling freeze dried chicken on it, or trying baby food, etc.

Got the warm food down- nuke the mix for 20 seconds and add PC on it and she will sit and eat. And I better NOT forget the Parm Cheese because she WILL not eat it until I sprinkle it on  .

Lu gave me the idea of watering down the tablet quarter and using an oral syringe to dribble in the liquid for dosing.

Another day of blues- PS to PS :-D . She's on 21u BID currently.
