Smooth curve but still high

Sue, this is probably addressed to you most specifically since you've answered all of my questions and you're familiar with the situation. It seems that the 1.8 is creating a more smooth curve. Her reaction to the food has been greatly limited. She's still showing her usual late nadir. However I just ate a snack and she practically attacked me and started pawing at my hand to take my food. I know she's slow to settle in on her doses but I'm thinking of increasing it to 2 tomorrow and doing another curve since I have one last day off before work.

Yes, it was pretty flat today. Normally we suggest three cycles before an increase, but I get that you have a limited time to do tests. How about holding her at 1.8 tonight and then trying the 2 units tomorrow when you can get some tests in?

We don't want her hungry and looking for food she shouldn't have. How much are you feeding now and how often?

Yeah I'll hold tonight. I was planning on doing that anyway. I'll do another curve tomorrow and 2 and let you know!

I don't know the history, but when I look at your spreadsheet, it looks like things were going well around Halloween on 2u. A couple of decent cycles since then. I'm not sure what was behind the huge reductions in dose since then but what I see is just "not enough insulin".

I think differently than most people here. But I don't agree with the theory that you need to wait three days or whatever to see what a dose will do. I think you can tell after a couple of cycles (assuming there is nothing muddying the picture like bounces) whether a dose is going to do anything. I don't see any bounces on Nala's SS since early November.

Sorry if I'm butting in and just not aware of your history.

You're not butting in at all. I welcome any and all opinions even if they differ from others. I'm just experimenting and trying to get her regulated before I push for TR and hopefully OTJ. I honestly don't think she's capable of OTJ but who knows. I'd be happy to get her regulated. The reason I took her low for a little while was because for the last 2 weeks in November and first week in December I was working 70 hours a week at work. She was having slightly higher numbers prior to that and I was afraid to increase her dose because I had no way of doing any curves. I was even working on weekends. I figured it'd be safe to hold her there until I could properly test her. I know my methods haven't been perfect but I wanted to keep her safe. I suppose I'm a bit of a chicken too, not wanting to do anything drastic but on the other hand that's slowed her progress so yeah I've been increasing her a little more quickly lately.

You are correct about looking good at 2 units. I noticed that the other day and had considered it. Along with Sue's advice I just put her on 2 this morning and the curve is looking even better. I'm crossing my fingers that I will get stable numbers over the next few days. It's too early to tell but she could probably use a slight increase over 2. Guess I'll have to be patient lol.

2 units is looking better already! Hopefully this dose will help you get some nice, low numbers and keep her stable.

Yep, we'll get a pair of patience pants out for you if you need! We've all had to wear them here. :D

How about these?

They'd be more awesome if the the colors were arranged to match our BG ranges!

Yes your hideous patience pants seem to be working! Let's hope she comes back up before her evening shot or I may have to adjust it.

Definitely looks like a bounce. I'd think it is quite likely that she hasn't gone down to a 125 in awhile and her body panicked and released extra glucose. The good news is that the dose got her in the blues. She may yet settle in and get used to those lower ranges.

It was a nice long surf, staying in the blues the majority of the day. Looks like an improvement!

That looks like a bounce. Maybe nadir was between the two blue numbers? What is good is that you can see that the dose did something for her. There might be some blue numbers in the blank spaces in between AMPS and PMPS in the past couple of weeks, but you can't know that for sure. Being able to "see" them should make you feel encouraged.

Yeah she's had a late nadir since I started this. Usually around +9 but you're right it could have come in at +7 or +8. I think I will take the advice and keep her here since she also takes awhile to settle into doses (usually.)
