I wonder if anyone has any ideas? Today I noticed two little bumps at Cattro's injection site. They are small and slightly red and if I rub them they seem a bit itchy. I have never seen them before, but I read this on a human Lantus forum: "These are the most COMMON side effects or Lantus. Redness, swelling, itching, or mild pain at the injection site."

We only started on Lantus 26 Jan 2013 having been on insuvet for 4 years previously with no bumps.

Do you move your shot site around? The Ph of Lantus is slightly different from that of a cat's body, that is how the shed forms, buy precipitating out due to the change in Ph. I've heard it said that it can sting a little, but don't know about the bumps. How long have you noticed them? Do they go away in a few days?

I would try to move your injection sites around a little to avoid that area and see if they don't go away on their own.

I see in your Remarks of your ss that you are giving metacam. I am guessing you know about the blackbox warning on that drug?

Good luck with the increase. Can you get a mid cycle test today and tonight, to see how the new dose is doing?

yes, she will only tolerate the scruff but I do vary it as much as possible, never had this with Insuvet

It does not have that in the UK and yes, I am aware and I have spoken to various vets and really, at her age there is not much option for her joints,

Thanks, I did not test today so will have to test tomorrow daytime at about +8

I also read something about possible constipation in your Remarks section. I have been giving about 1 tablespoon of baby food squash to my cat, and his poops have been a lot better. He has arthritis too.

oh yes I forgot about squash, she is not normally constipated but thanks for the reminder

My cat just had a dental, and he was given buprenex (another pain medication) three times a day, and it made him constipated. Maybe metacam does the same thing. My cat loves the squash. We've just recently started it and last night he ate it even though it wasn't exactly mixed in with his food.

Curiosity, what are you feeding? Boots gets them too. They have been worse in the last year or so and not just around the shot site.
They are easy to miss in other areas, as the fur hides them. Since we poke around the shot site they're easier to notice.

She mostly has Nature's Menu. With a bit of Sheba in trays or Gourmet gold top , nothing she hasn't been eating for years
