Slippery Elm Bark cause Diabetes?

My cat Suki was just diagnosed with Diabetes in the past couple days. I've been doing lots of reading, freaking out, etc. Then today it hit me as I was giving all my cats SEB she started getting sick a few weeks ago-that is about how long I've been giving the SEB. One of my other cats has CRF and SEB is recommended for control of stomach acid. It is also supposed to be good for IBD which Suki and my 3rd cat have. I decided just in case to google it:

Do you think its even possible?? Her sugar was 397 the other day and Fructosamine 595 with several other parameters out of whack. Could it possibly be this easy of a solution??

Slippery elm does not cause diabetes.

Inappropriate diet - high carb, dry food, steroids are things that cause diabetes.

there is a more detailed explanation of what causes diabetes, I need to look for it, but it's not slippery elm.
 
What???? I just received the news that my cat has glucose and ketones in her urine! We were giving her slippery elm for her digestion!
 
Why did you say that anyway? I read the link and I see nothing about it causing diabetes. Kind of strange?
 
What alarmed me was this:

"Some carbohydrate components in slippery elm include galactose, galacturonic acid and glucose"

other sites also say SEB contains complex sugars.
