well if anyone got a tip or two.. appreciated.

kitty is used to being able to go outdoors for a few hours in the evenings (i know many ppl have an opinion on this.. safer indoor, etc. etc. but plz bear w me; i am also of the opinion happiness matters too.. he loves outdoors; and its been 15+ years.. appreciate tho the concern and do understand.. i mention this cuz might perhaps be related to his restlessness..)

at this time, w everything, i am keeping him in ofc to keep an eye on him and watch him.. it wouldnt be good for him to go out rn. the problem is.. while we fix and figure things.. hes hungry every few hours (2-3..) and at night is especially restless.. sometimes waking me up hour by hour.. (hes bored probably and lonely and is hungry) or every few hours.. im getting pretty ragged. just doing what i can to deal w it rn..

not sure what to do if anything. just expecting things to resolve when things are more controlled/healed…..

One way to address Pudge being hungry is a timed feeder. You can set the times for throughout the evening while you're asleep.

The other suggestion that I have is play with him!! Tire him out. Interactive play is great for your relationship with your cat and if he's used to going outside, playing with him inside may be a good alternative.

It's nice to see someone admit they let their cat outside. Some are just so unhappy being locked up all day. Do I want a safe cat that lives to 18 miserable years or a happy cat that lives a shorter life? I've had two that spent some nights in -30 weather on a 160 acre tree farm. They lived to 17 and 23.
That's an old myth about strict feeding 12 hours apart, it's just not natural. A few nibbles (within reason obviously) between shot times never killed any diabetic cat. As for nocturnal cats you just never know. We have two that sleep all day and all night and one that pesters me all night when I can't sleep. It's really not a big deal.

this!! I try playing w him but I've noticed he doesn't seem to see as well as he used to.. im afraid the higher sugars might be affecting his vision a little (???) *cries. also he's has a little cold, which affects his smell.. I will try to do more though now anyway (I always played with him up until recently..)

also, did a supervised outside visit time last night for a little while and it went really good.. he was happy. he wanted to come in tho and I was glad haha. and he was much better in the night!

he's also just hungry hungry cause he's not getting his nutrition like he should.. terrible.

and right! I hear there's some that stores wet food for you but not sure if they're any good.. one I saw recently was called a PetLibro at $149 I think haha..

aw lol! thanks for saying.. I mean.. yes. im sorry. quality it is and you gotta live a little.. especially if they've always done it, and he enjoys it so much.. :(:cat:

so cool about your kitties! -30!!!!... truly. it's all relative. and yes! he's been getting more frequent meals for years; I just allotted amounts based off the kcal on the cans.. he got however many cans based off that. just now.. he's hungry way more frequently cuz of everything (not getting the nutrition he should be..) but I am noticing not as much as before! think at night just restless and bored.. also have been a bit stressed adjusting myself. will take tips and such and see on things. just he was waking me up at one point every hour.. ragggeddd let me tell you.

what in your opinion is reasonable in between feedings? the trend has been wanting food every 3-4 hours.. more like 3.. :\ but because of everything, i do not let him go without food. just can't. not sure how can be helped. I am trying to stretch out the times tho.. make it 4-5.. am thinking as things get more controlled this will get way better.

also, im noticing him wailing/caterwauling more.. like a few instances at night and when he drinks water... any thoughts? hmm. he's done this in the past tho. not surprising. but it's like louder or something rn.. idk. trying to grab my attention too..

The food thing. As long as you follow the rule about feeding before shots and testing pretty much anything goes. It will screw up a curve so watch out for that. The twice a day feeding is really old school, no animal in nature eats just twice a day setting an alarm on a gold plated I-watch. We tried that that on our first sugar cat and watched him slowly circle the drain until common sense prevailed. Watch out for Temptation treats, most are loaded with sugar. Kind of like thinking Nutella is good for kids when it has more sugar than cake frosting. Be thankful for today's food choices. My first two that lived to 17 and 23 ate that awful Safeway low ash pig slop. When I moved in with my wife all three of our cats ate MeowMix. Some "organic" foods blessed by a Shaman, and especially weight loss foods should come with a warning. "Your mileage may vary"
As for the caterwauling I'm not qualified to answer that. The wailing, is it the sound of pain? That could be anything from an ingrown nail to an abscess tooth, maybe time for your vet to examine your Visa card. The fun never ends!

ty!!! :) appreciate it so much.. exactly. I just feel terrible denying him food when the reality is that his body is starving... so yeah. he has also just grazed and free eaten generally for some years (portioned). im sorry about your poor kitty and great you were able to make a judgment for em on that! of course he spiraled.. terrible..... 12 hours between meals... and did think about this with a curve.. but alas.

I am terribly guilty rn because he loved those temptation treats.......... and also greenies. im so angry they even sell these things when its so bad for cats. haha its TRUE! the things they sell...... smh!! definitely see this now. I thought I was doing a good thing changing to greenies. but its ALL dry food. because it was a "treat" and due to some life events happened over the years, my mind.. I was aware of it but just lost sight of it and also couldn't get as many check up tests as I wanted done.. (also I just didn't realize how much I was maybe giving.. maybe too much. and didn't like other treats cause I thought they were too hard, etc.. yet still Temptations.. I'll tell you, my mind..) TERRIBLE. I blame myself now. but I instantly took him off everything and he's getting LC, LC treats now.. im dying to getting around making him some boiled/cooked turkey meat and some bone broth.. sprinkle some on his food. he also gets a fish oil and a probiotic. :)

im really considering changing him to Lantus. have found it's not as expensive as its been said; its about the same damn price as Vetsulin rn and I heard folks on the forum suggest as well as personally they know of affordable places to get it (the vet knew about it but didn't prescribe it cause he thought its too expensive............ things is, Vetsulin don't even last 12 hours right.. short acting, his numbers go back up after +9 or +10 im seeing... people on the forum are very persistent that Lantus is better. although some people wrote that as their cat healed, the duration got longer on Vetsulin (?). but it's hard for me to see him not feel great. so idk. also, been noticing since his increase dose that his numbers are now higher in evening when they weren't before.. im pensive on this.)

ps. his caterwauling has been better! :) eh. he does it still sometimes but has always done over the years.. especially when drinking from his fountain/wanting attention; looking for me.. :cat:
