There's still 4 hours and that's a long time before the PMPS. From her spreadsheet, I think you can expect her to be in pink or red by then.

You've held this 1.5 dose for 7 days so I'd go up to 1.75 tonight.

You do need to start getting some tests on the PM cycle too. Most cats go lower at night so it's important to know what's going on overnight. You don't have to stay up all night (not all the time anyway)….just grab at least a "before bed" test. I don't know what time you usually go to bed, but if you see a drop in her numbers at +2 or +3, it may be necessary to set an alarm to grab another test later in the cycle. A lot of us drink a big glass of water so we "have to" get up.....and as long as we're up, we grab a test!

You're doing a great job of testing during the AM cycle. Are you able to get at the very least, a before bed test every evening? Lantus dosing is based on the lowest number in the cycle. Thus, it's important to get tests during the PM cycle, as well. Without at least one test, you don't know if numbers are dropping low over night and, in addition, you're missing half of your data. With all due respect to @Chris & China (GA), I'd want to see some data from the evening cycle before suggesting an increase.

There's information on dosing in the sticky notes on the Lantus forum. Ultimately, you'll want to choose between Tight Regulation versus Start Low Go Slow providing that you're feeding Skittles a low carb canned food diet.

I thought of that too.

@SkittlesMarie …..why not go ahead and stick with the 1.5 for a few more cycles. Get some tests on the PM cycles for a few days so we have a better idea of what's been going on overnight.

And yes, hope you'll join the Lantus forum! Everybody there uses Lantus, Levemir or Basaglar (which are all depot insulins and work basically the same way) so you'll get lots of experienced eyes there!

I am only feeding her fancy feast pates and she loves them. Thank goodness for that. I am going to test her again in a few minutes. Her shot is 8:00 pm. I will stick with 1.5 units of Lantus because of the instability of her numbers. Thank you all. She has always eaten throughout the day. My vet wanted me to only feed her before shots. I won’t do that. My girl is used to eating at all times and I don’t want to change this.

You don't need to change it....it's actually easier on the pancreas to deal with multiple small meals instead of 2 big ones. Vets are used to the older, harsher insulins that it WAS important for them to have a big meal.

The only time you don't want to feed is the 2 hours immediately before shot times so that when you get your Pre-shot tests, it's without the influence of food.
