Skinky insulin - PLEASE help

Thanks everyone. The vet was kinda random about the insulin, and I think maybe I see why now. Vet said I might even want to NOT give insulin, but i'm not going w/ that because her BG has been "hi" and in the 500's probably because of the steroids (it was previously high 200's low 300's before the 'roids. ) anyhow, I injected less than a unit of insulin this morning and surprisingly, her BG right now is 122. She really is all over the place. Vet suggested skipping insulin if she is under 300. So many different opinions from vets about her insulin.

Anyhow, i'll post an update tomorrow afternoon. Thanks again for the well wishes!!! :)

Best Wishes for a good vet visit tomorrow.
122 is a great number. I'll keep praying that you can keep getting food and water into her and that tomorrow's vet is a good vet that will work with you.

I've found similar on the B12 with Saoirse. With the regular weekly injections things got better for her. I hope that it will help Skinky, too.

Laura, what was Skinky's BG before insulin this morning, and how many hours after the injection did you get the BG test at 122? That sort of information is really helpful for people here to see because it gives a better idea of how the Lantus is working. This is only conjecture on my part, but perhaps Skinky may not have been quite as thirsty today because her BG was better (122) for part of the day?

Will be looking out for your update tomorrow. I know how nervous you are. :bighug:

Keeping you both in my prayers.

Hi Laura,
Thinking of you and Skinky this evening and sending prayers for your vet visit tomorrow. I hope the vet will give you answers and a good plan for getting Skinky well again.
:bighug::bighug::bighug: for you,
Scritches for your brave girl,

Ella & Rusty

Hi Aine,

Thank you! No, she's not drinking water AT ALL. AT least not that I've seen. Not sure if it's nausea or pain in her mouth. Anyhow - I don't even want to speculate on that right now. I'll just see what the doctor has to say tomorrow.

As for the BG..
431 2/2 1025 am
122 2/2 515 pm
about a half unit of Lantus. She's really all over the place. I'm sure it's the steroids...

Critter Mom makes a good point, when cats eat wet food and are well regulated they don't normally drink water. My two kitties eat Fancy Feast and they don't drink any water. They get all their moisture from their wet food. Good luck tomorrow!
