Hi!
I am going away from July 8-12
I can shoot Friday July 8 in the AM-
I am back to shoot Tuesday July 12 for his PM shot-

Dre has been doing pretty good with his numbers .... I am wondering when I decide what dose to give my sitter and how to decide a "no shoot" dose.

I am going to show her his ss and the forum--her name is Rachel.
I will have her text me the numbers as well-

Do I wait until a few days before to decide? She probably won't be testing in between unless she is really comfortable wit it-
He is at 2.5 now..... do most give .5 less for a sitter dose?
Thanks in advance-- I will be giving her a "sample syringe "as well....:bighug:

I usually lowered the dose for my cats when either they were boarded or had a sitter while I was traveling. Good idea for leaving a sample syringe. You can mark on your syringes where the insulin should come up to or fill one with colored water up to the dose. Some sitters may not realize that 2 units mean to the 2nd line and not to the number 2 on the syringe.

It sounds like your sitter will hometest. That is great news. I usually set my "don't shoot" number at 200 when leaving my cats with someone that was not familiar with FD. If Rachel is familiar with it, you could lower it to where you feel comfortable.

Today will be her first time ever testing:eek:
She has been staying with them for over 10 years when I am gone tho and Dre is super cooperative-
I am not sure she will test in between but I think she will be ok for the pre shot-
if he is at 2.5 now should I leave a 2 unit dose?
I have another girl that used to work for me who lives too far away but she will be my back up and knows the boys well....
Neither has a clue about FD..... YET:rolleyes:

There's lots of time before July 8th and as you know, things tend to change a lot with our kitties so you might want to ask about a specific dose a few days before then

If Dre is still on 2.5 at that time, I think lowering it to 2 makes good sense, although I think if you're comfortable with it, I'd set a "no shot" number at maybe 150 instead of 200 ....you're lowering the dose too so it's less likely he'd go too low anyway

You'll want to start shooting the lower dose about a day early too....let the depot drain a little...so maybe start shooting the lower dose on the PM cycle on 7/7, shoot it again the morning of 7/8 and then it's up to the sitter after that

Of course if she can test more, that sure would be great!!

Thank you Chris--
I was thinking 150 too--wasn't sure if that was going to be safe enough but I will know more the closer we get. He takes at least 2 increases to get him back to good numbers so I am hoping to keep him in good yet safe numbers.
She should be here soon! Be good Dre be good Dre HMMMMM LOL

Invite Rachel to join FDMB now. Then she will have an opportunity to learn more about FD before you leave. If she is a professional pet sitter, this would a good thing to add to her experience. We will be glad to help her learn about FD.

Well guess who did a awesome job testing!! First time and she nailed it:cat:
She is going to come 2 more times before we leave. Next time will be more about Rico and his fluids and pills-
Such a relief!!
Thank everyone for the guidance:bighug:

I showed her the forum and she will have access -- she is not a sitter by profession but she has watched the boys for the past 13 years and has 2 cats.
She did awesome!!!

Next week is fluids and pilling :)
She was interested in how to read the ss etc.... Rico who usually doesn't bother to come down for company stayed front and center:cat:
