SISU B12 ??

I'm in Canada and need to start our Zorro on B12. He's got neuropathy in his hind quarters which seems to be getting worse by the day. I've picked up some SISU B12 (see attached) but need some advice on how much to give him and how often. The pills are 1000 mcg's each and the dosage for humans is one pill a day. Our vet was unaware of the difference between the methyl and cyano B12's and I can't wait while he tries to get answers from his specialist contact (in Australia). Zorro is unregulated and we are trying our hardest to regulate him but need to give him the B12 in the hopes it starts to help with the neuropathy. Thoughts anyone?

You definitely want to give your cat methyl B12--that is the one that helps with neuropathy. The recommended dosage is between 3 and 5mg (3000 - 5000 mcg) per day, regardless of body size. Any excess is excreted in the urine, so there are no worries about overdosing. When I was helping treat a diabetic cat with neuropathy a few years ago, he got one of these capsules mixed in his food once a day.
 
Just a bit of advice--you might have an easier time giving a capsule, opened and mixed in food once a day rather than try to give a tablet 3 times a day. Every cat is different, but I know I can only get so many pills in mine per day before he starts chewing up his (diabetic safe) pill pocket and spitting out the pill. At which point we are forced to do a pilling, and that is never fun (you should see the backs of my hands from my not-so-successful attempt this morning).
 
Thanx Guys, what I am really needing to know is: is the SISU B12 I picked up OK for kitties? Does anyone know if the additional ingredients are sugar or carbohydrates (see pdf)?
 
@Greg fellow Canadian here. I struggled to find a Canadian source for methyl-B12 that didn't have additives.

Here is a link to a possible solution, if you don't want to buy Zobaline and pay the huge shipping - it's a great product but expenses were getting out of hand for me.

I have used this with my Genghis and her neuropathy has diminished significantly. I figure it's the methyl-B12 combined with the folic acid plus better BG regulation. There are links to the online store and shipping was super fast!

Further to @Tuxedo Mom 's comment about isomalt (thank you Mary Ann!) FYI same goes for cellulose. I can't find the link but they did a study on cellulose in cats and found it did not contribute to higher BG levels.

@Greg FWIW, yes probably safe to start it but you may want to combine with Folic Acid - much more easily found in a pure form. Not sure why (perhaps something to help with absorption? sorry - long day and my brain is fried) but it's in Zobaline and lots of people swear by the combination. The link above does show the proportions.

ETA: The article on cellulose was for humans, so check that; however, Zobaline does containe microcrystalline cellulose so safe to presume it is fine given its reported efficacy.

Thanx again. I am going to go ahead and order the Zobaline for Zorro. I just don't feel comfortable with giving him this SISU brand without hearing from someone else who has used it.
 
@Greg -- You could also order the Vitacost capsules from amazon and select international shipping to Canada, I think. I don't think it's more than $15 for international shipping? That would still be less than ordering from amazon.ca. It may take a while to reach you, though.
