Sinatra's Spreadsheet

First off - we are trying to get enough data at the proper times for a "curve". We are literally doing the best we given given what we have going on at the moment.

But...Look at the numbers that I DO have. Today - I started seeing those black squares again and that's SCARY! He's not eating very well whereas yesterday was seeming a bit better and eating his Friskies grilled whatever it's called (it's permitted). Today - just barely eating and those numbers, ya'll!

I know we don't give insulin on instinct - I KNOW that. But still here I am wanting to increase him. In my MIND (not saying I will by any means) - the doc dx 3 units 2 times a day and thank GOODNESS I didn't just jump on that and found yall - but in my head I'm like - if he went straight to 1.5 after a week on 1 - we are still at half and I'm not seeing his numbers come down much for any real good period of time.

Talk me down- or say "yes, it might be wise to increase at this point but only.....".

Thanks in advance. It looks like my signature is missing? Is it missing?
Just in case....
Sinatra's Spreadsheet, Lantus 1 U 2xday, Male/13.5 years old, otherwise "healthy"

Also - can anyone tell me why my post title isn't in bold like the others? I just noticed that. And the little pair of glasses by my post..... It's been so long since I've "message boarded". : )

Hi! First, hang in there - FD has a steep learning curve and can be incredibly frustrating :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Andddd, I'm going to pick easy questions first lol

- For threads where you have read all of the posts in them, they are not bolded. For threads where you have not read all of the posts in them, they are bolded. Thee little glasses just mean you posted/made a comment on a thread (so the glasses automatically are on your own thread since you started it).

Not missing, I see it! Hurray!

As for dosing - I don't personally advise there but will tag folks that stopped by last time. Did you by chance give insulin last night? The Units cell is blank. If you didn't give insulin, put "NS" (for No Shot).

Here's your previous post just for background for anyone else reading; it looks like Elise @tiffmaxee and Wendy @Wendy&Neko stopped by - perhaps they can weigh in on dosing when they are online again.

Also, have you read the lantus dosing methods? If you are feeding any dry, you'll need to follow SLGS - otherwise, if on all wet diet, you can choose between Tight Regulation (TR) and SLGS. Might be worth reading if you haven't already.

Hope that helps a little bit :bighug:

Hi Gabrielle.... a couple of things.
have you looked at the two dosing methods at the top of the Lantus page? They are one of the yellow stickies. Have a look and think about which method would suit you better. If you can decide that, that will make it all easier as you will have a path to follow.
Are you testing foe ketones in the urine? If not I would go out and buy a bottle of Ketostix from Walmart or a pharmacy and test the urine as per the instructions on the bottle.
Also make sure you are getting a test in every night as cats often drop lower at night and that can cause a bounce which results in higher numbers.

Hi Gabrielle,

I wanted to add that you just started Sinatra on insulin and you might be seeing those terrible black and red numbers for a while. Chances are Sinatra was diabetic for a long time before anyone figured it out, so he's built up a bit of glucose toxicity. You're going to need to keep giving him insulin and keep increasing the dose until he breaks through that toxicity and starts seeing some lower numbers. You can look at my Ruby's SS from the beginning of our journey in 2020 and see how long it took for the nasty reds and pinks to turn into blues and greens. In fact, you should spend some time looking at other cat's spreadsheets. It might make you feel a little better about what the process can look like.

The little glasses next to your post means you're "watching" that thread...anytime you make a thread or respond to someone else's you automatically get alerts (little red numbers on the upper right corner of the window) whenever that thread gets updated with a new response.

Hi again. What are you feeding Sinatra? We need to know do we can help you. If any dry food read the directions for SLGS. If canned or raw read it and TR and let us know which you think you might want to follow. You can change your mind at any time.

Hi Gabrielle and sugarcat Sinatra! Glad to see you over here from the Facebook group!

It's important to add what you're feeding to your "Signature" as well as the dosing method you choose (doesn't have to be done tonight)

Did you give the 1U last night? The U cell is empty.

It's also important to get at least 1 "before bed" test on the PM cycle. Most cats go lower at night and while I doubt he is, it's still a very important test to always get.

Let us know what you're feeding and if you gave insulin last night and we'll be able to give you some advice for the next few days (at least)

I have! In fact I printed it for ease of use and for my family to read. I admit - though normally more "with it" than I feel right now in a perpetual brain fog (graduating kid, 18th birthday kid, covid school, sick cat, etc) I feel like I read it and forget it within minutes. Literally. But I'm still trudging on. LOL. I have checked SInatra's ketones several times and they are always appear normal. But I have not set a rigid time to do that.... Hopefully when the excitement of the school year dies down I can amp up our routine.

I'll get the food added to the siggy - but honestly right now we are bouncing around so much it might be futile. All appropriate kinds but when he doesn't feed, we try something else, when he throws up - we try another. We did give the 1 U. I corrected the cell. Eek!

Generally we try Sheba pate, Friskies mixed grill pate (he seems to like this better but still not much), FF pate....every now and then if I'm desperate I mix in Wyson dry. I even tried making him an egg - no go. *sigh*
