Well, he is nothing else if not consistent in terms of his numbers for the most part. With the exception of a few times, he is around this exact area in the morning number. Gave him 2.25. DH will test at +6. No other testing until PMPS as we are not here.

Consistent is much better than a panic over what to shoot each morning! Some day soon I hope you can get a curve and see when his nadir really is. That'd help us see whether he bounces from these blues or whether there is a lower number somewhere in the cycle.

On 5/25 and 5/26, I did a curve. Unless I did it wrong. I realize that it should be +2, 4 etc, but I did do lots of different times like 3,5,6,,9 and 10 at some point during those two days. Doesn't that count as a curve pretty much or does it have to be the regimented every two hours? Sigh...he seems to be in the same range with the same dose and I am thinking I should do one of two things. Either raise it by .25 to 2.5 or lower it to 1.75 and see what happens.

The thing is, when he goes high, he has a trace of sugar in his urine according to the urine sticks that measure both ketones and sugar (he has been negative for ketones thankfully) and by a trace, I mean the first color change on the scale. Not even the first + sign. But, still it worries me so I don't want him going too high by not giving enough insulin. I am already 3/4 of a dose UNDER where the vet wants him (but I believe that this community is right, not him in terms of 3 units being too high all at once)

Anyway, trial and error. Just hoping to find the right dose. Also, his +6 this morning was pretty high at 262, about `100 pts more than usual at that hour. I did not smell insulin or feel wet so don't think he got a fur shot although anything is possible since he squirms so much.

Ok, going to get an extra reading at +2 tonight to see where that is since I usually do a +3 instead.

I am curious whether he is going lower at some point in the cycle and then bouncing back to the pinks for a preshot. Both the 5/25 and 5/26 numbers were done on the 2 unit dose so they don't tell us much about the 2.25 dose.

The issue is that if he is bouncing, increasing or decreasing the dose won't help much. If he isn't bouncing, then I'd suggest going up to 2.5. But first I think it would be good to have some +4 and +5 and +8 numbers to see whether that +6 is on the way up or down. Does that make sense?

Ok, I see what you mean. This weekend, I will do those hours on the 2.25 dose to see where he is. Thanks for your advice as always. He seems to at least not be spiking really high very often and those pinks seem to be only at the end of his cycle thankfully, exception being on vet day (the 17th) when he had the 3 units and also when he had a fur shot day.

Oh and there is no doubt in my mind that his nadir is between +4 and +5.5 and that by the time plus 6 is happening, he is on the way back up. That is pretty much able to be seen in his SS.

Let's get a number at that time then. If he is in the greens at his lowest point, we don't want to increase, but just wait for him to stop bouncing.

Just did his +2 and he dropped 100 points already, even after eating his dinner and his snacks from the tests. He is at 210.

The 2 unit vs 2.25 unit thing is more of a scale thing.

2 units on a low 200 and under is perfect. We should maybe look at the higher numbers and get some data on those.

His +5 is 61, the lowest I have seen him go yet. I will get a +6 to make sure. I am too nervous to go to bed with him this low.

40 is when you get nervous and intervene. For now, give him a little lowcarb food. If he drops into the 40s, try some gravy from the higher carb foods. Have you read the Hypo info and have your supplies - strips, high carb, Karo? (if you prepare, then I figure you won't need it.)
