Wish it was under 250, but I will take any yellow instead of 300's! He had another green at +4.5 last night as I stayed up until midnight to make sure he did not go too low. Still shooting 2.25 as this has given him the best numbers so far. He is acting so different. Very playful and less thirsty/hungry. Ketones have been NONE thankfully and he is really doing well. Not letting my guard down though. Hubby will try to test him again at +5 (which seems to be a good time as he appears to have an earlier nadir between +4 - +5)
Sue, I agree with you about being thankful that I did not give Simon the 3 units the vet wanted with him showing numbers in the 70's near nadir time. That could have been really bad! I am also considering NOT bringing him to the vet this Friday for a check up (again at 8:15 with no food or insulin? crazy if you ask me) and calling and saying that I will do all the BG checking myself and will bring him in at 1 month for a checkup and blood work. I am sure my vet will not be too happy with me going against both the dose and the diet suggestion of Purina DM, but my results speak for themselves. He is eating the FF classics and his numbers are getting better without the expensive DM that Simon did not even like all that much.
I bought him some freeze dried chicken for snacks and freeze dried turkey (his two favorites) and some bonito flakes. I also bought some other chicken snacks recommended at a Pet store (like Petco only local chain) called Catswell Vita Kitty which was high in protein and Vitamin A and then I noticed that it contained some molasses! I guess that must have more carbs than he should have. Too bad cause he loves them. Although it is high protein and the main ingredient is chicken breast, molasses must not be so good for carbs :YMSIGH:
But, the freeze dried stuff is just chicken and he likes it so I will go with that even though it was really expensive. Guess I should buy myself one of those freeze drying things so I can make my own to save some $$.
So, the hubs is going to try and get a +5 today cause he has to leave after that. Not sure he will get it today either, but he is willing to give it another try. It does not help that my kitty is all black and it is hard to see the blood drop. I told hubby to make sure he is wearing his glasses and turns on the overhead light so he can get the blood before the meter times out!
So, although the AMPS reading was a little higher than I like to see and it was only 11 hours due to the late PM shot last night, thinking I will stay with 2.25 for the week and see how it goes.
