My sister-in-law's 8 year old kitty is quite ill and the vets have no idea what's wrong.

Here are her symptoms:
No eating last couple days
Drank some water today, threw it up
Enlarged Spleen, biopsied, no cancer
Fluid around spleen - blood
No temperature
Quiet and withdrawn
Not on any meds right now

Ultra sound done, blood work (normal but awaiting white count results)

Vet recommends more testing, if they want, to try to find out what's wrong. But kitty, Maddie, not eating so there is concern about her liver without food.

Any suggestions on:
additional tests (reasonable cost)
possible diagnosis
what to do

Thank you !

If the cat isn't eating or drinking, it's a definite concern and something that needs to be addressed. Did the vet provide appetite stimulants, anti-nausea meds, anything like this? What about assisted feeding (ie, syringe feeding or a feeding tube)?

I hope you get answers soon and in the meantime, try syringe or spoon feeding the cat - if you need to use baby food - just make sure it doesn't contain onions or garlic - beechnut stage 1 meat flavors are good option to try.

No stimulants or anti-nausea meds. I mentioned to my sister-in-law.

Maddie is going to receive an antibiotic shot tonight to bypass her stomach and hopefully stay in her system. I will remind my sister-in-law about the stimulants and anti-nausea meds - again.

She is in the process of buying additional foods to try, including baby food.

Thank you!
