One of my civvies developed a sudden and intense aversion to the food he had happily been eating for a month or more. now, about 2 weeks later, he is having diarrhea accompanied with some vomiting, Yesterday he threw up his breakfast, didn't eat much lunch , ate dinner in stages but at least he did eat. This morning he vomited up some bile before breakfast. Should I be very worried or does this seem like something that will pass and he'll be okay? Any input is appreciated! Thanks.

ETA: He is not interested in eating his breakfast today. :(

Hi Lucy, has your civvie ever had pancreatitis? That can cause nausea and vomiting and not wanting to eat? Does he appear to be in any pain?
He could also have a tummy upset. You could try plain mashed pumpkin for his bowels and some slippery elm bark powder made into a slurry to see if it settles his tummy. But if he is nauseated he won't want to eat.
Otherwise I would be inclined to take him to the vet who may give you something for the nausea if necessary and find out what is causing it all.
Good luck

No sign of any pain, and I think now the vomiting food is another civvie who has a history of scarf-n-barf. But Khoji did definitely vomit bile this morning, and the diarrhea has definitely been him, too. No history of pancreatitis or any tummy issues. He's acting perfectly normal, maybe a little stressed, but with him, that's fairly normal. Interesting to note, he ate his breakfast, finally, quite contentedly, as long as I sat with him. So far he seems okay. We have had a bit more disturbance in the house with other kitties' health issues, and Khoji is extremely easily stressed. I have nausea meds here, also an appy stimulant. I can try those, I guess. The soonest I can get him in to see the vet is tomorrow afternoon.

If you're going to the vet bring a sample bowel motion if possible, Lucy.

BTW if Khoji didn't eat much overnight the bilious vomitus might have been due to stomach acid build-up after a long fast.

Sending get-better-soon vibes for Khoji and some :bighug:s for you.

Whiffy and I mean really whiffy poo along with vomiting is what Smokey had when I took him into vet. Turned out to be pancreatitis.

What is the food? Sometimes there are batch changes which are enough to provoke vomiting and diarrhea in some cats.

Check the codes from the cans and see if cans from a different batch provoke the same response. Feed a different flavor, since once illness is associated with a flavor, a cat may refuse it.

Ain't that the truth. Having that very problem with Lúnasa at the moment. :(

Now Squallie is having awful, nasty-smelling diarrhea, too. He has just started taking ondansetron and bupenorphine and I wondered if that had anything to do with it. He also takes Cyproheptadine, been on that for a few weeks, now.

If anything bupe and ondansetron are constipating, Lucy. I've not noticed any negative GI effects in Saoirse from cypro. If anything the latter seems to do positive things for her GI comfort.

After he had that nasty blow-out, Squallie seems to be feeling much better and more like himself! Khoji is still having issues with food, though. :(
