? Shorshe: Post dental extraction Updates and Questions about Myoclonic Seizures and BG

Hi All,

We have been the house of surgeries lately. Shorshe got her dental surgery on 19th November (3 extractions, including two abcessed canines and one crown aputation) and I had a surgery on 19th Dec. Escuse the **** typing/typos because of the cast on my hand.

Shorshe had severe bradycardia immediately after induction and had to be administered atropine thrice within the first 15 mins to bring her heart rate to normal. Her pre-surgery echocardiogram and electrocardiogram were normal. But she had irregular heartrate during surgery and even a day after surgery. But we had another checkup a week after surgery and it was normal so the vets said it was likely a reaction to anesthetic drugs (induction with midazolam, maintenance with isoflurane). The anesthetologist told me that she feels shorshe should not have general anesthesia except in life-saving surgeries.

Shorshe also had really bad diarrhea from amoxiclav and was given convenia. Thankfully didn't have a reaction to it. She also tested negative for ringworm 1 week after surgery. Post surgery her twitches--which the veterinary neurologist initially said could be feline hyperesthesia syndrome, worsened. The vet has prescribed her very low dosage of levetiracetam (60mg twice daily, her weight is 5.4kg). Since levetiracetam the inten sity of the twitching is less, and her mood is noticeably better--she is much more readily co-existing with at least one cat without attacking them. It's definitely not FARS because she has twitches even when everything is quiet. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with SLOME (I found one paper on it: Spontaneous late-onset myoclonic epilepsy in cats: 15 cases (2015–2023) - PMC). She has also been licking the fur off her hind legs and tail and now that she is negative for ringworms, the vets think its pain. She and another one of my cats recieved 1/2 dose of solensia and September but the other cat, Kalonji, had acute pancreatitis within 3 weeks so I am no longer considering Solensia as an option. The vets tried laser therapy last week. It seemed to make her more stiff for the next 4-5 days. Any suggestions for arthritic cats?

I am, however, severely disappointed that I haven't seen a significant reduction in her BG post dental surgery. She is currently on pregabalin, levetiracetam, liver supplements (SAM-e), asthma inhaler, antinol (omega 3), synoquin (joint supplement). Does anyone have any insights as to her BG not reducing after the surgery? She eats Young Again Zero LID. She used to be on Dr Elsey's but they seem to have discontinued the Rabbit variant and she is refusing the other variants. I have seen posts on this forum flagging gabapentin as causing high BG. Is this the case with pregabalin too? The vet said she has not seen any significant variation in BG in cats on pregabalin.

Much love to everyone this holiday season. And thanks in advance for your valuable advice.

If no one has experienced here, maybe you could try the Facebook page associated with this site? There's a bigger mix over there.
Hope you get your answers and you have a quick recovery yourself too.💕
