Patches' numbers have been dropping all night and I know on the pzi thread they say 200 is a good no shoot number for beginners. She is at 238 right now and that's an almost 10 point drop from an hour ago. So should I wait and see or maybe give her a reduced amount?

Woo! Forget about increasing the dose a bit. Whenever you get a number around 200 and it is dropping, wait 20 minutes without feeding and retest. If the number is rising and you can monitor, shoot the same dose or just a little less.

ohmygod_smile I fed her right after posting that ....ugh one of these days I will get the hang of this I promise. So what do I do now?

An hour past shot time and she eats at the same time. The vet said to feed her then give her the shot when she is done so that's what I have been doing.

I did try calling the see what I should do an hour ago but got told she was out to lunch and would call when she got back.

What's your day like? Can you wait another hour, test and if she's above 200, then shoot? Doing that would mean your schedule will be off, so your next shot after that one would need to be 12 hours later.

You can also skip. It's not the end of the world. Her next number will probably be high as she will have been 24 hours since the last shot. You can get her back on track. For the pm shot, you might give the one unit. And monitor.

So next time, wait 20 minutes with no food and retest. If, for example, she was up to 250, you could have shot a little less than the one unit.

Don't worry. You'll get the hang of this. it's complicated and a steep learning curve at first.

My day is pretty open but let me ask you a question rather than totally skip or wait 24 hours can we use this oopsie to reset the schedule. We aren't happy with the 12am to 12 pm schedule but didn't want to mess her up. Like maybe 7pm or 8pm to 7am or 8am? Would that cause any undue stress or harm her?

That would be fine. Just pick the time you want to shoot regularly and give her the one unit then. It will be longer than 12 hours since the last shot and she definitely should be high enough. Be sure to note on your ss so we will remember why her pmps was higher.

Ok Thanks ...making a new mental note. Next time no food if under 240 at 250 reduced dose. Thank you so much still haven't heard from the vet. I am trying to learn but like you said steep curve and a bit scary right now since I feel so lost in alot of this. I do know she is feeling much better though other than being skinny as a rail she is acting like her old self. Even ran across the room when she thought another kitty was gonna love on her boy. First time she has run on 2 weeks, I know I look silly celebrating small things that most wouldn't see as special but we came so close to loosing her that even the littlest thing makes me happy. :-D

Yes, those are the sweetest surprises. When they groom themselves or start playing again - something they haven't felt good enough to do in a long time. It means you are doing good, Mom!

If and when you want to, you might start posting on the PZI forum. Everyone there is experienced with your insulin. Most PZI users post there instead of on Health (Although a few of us post on both) It is a much smaller board and only busy at am/pm EST, so if you need an immediate answer, post here. It is helpful to look at everyone's spreadsheet on the PZI forum so you have an idea of what their cats are doing and how they are handling dosing. Here is the link:

oh ok thank you again! I wasn't sure about protocol for posting on different parts of the board. I will post there too and check out the spreadsheets. Would love more info on our kind of insulin. I know its wonderful to see her doing all her old stuff again. Yep I am trying hard to be a good mama for my furbabies. Gonna go make some pizza dough so we can nom on homemade pizza tonight. Thanks again for helping me!
