Pretty sure skittles got at least one piece of my dogs food ! Now he is begging for food! Even trying to jump up on my dresser where I have Kona's food! Just tested him and he is up to 111.
I am trying to not panic and will retest in the morning.
I have never seen him beg for food this bad, not even before I found out he had diabetes

On the up side, skittles is no longer walking on his hocks !
I literally JUST noticed this. He was still doing that 2 nights ago

OMGOSH, he is a monster ! He will not stop begging! I finally had to kick him out of my room and shut the door and he is banging on it! I wish I knew the carb count of this food . It's sensitive stomach and skin made by Hills Dry food. I just put my dog on it less then a week ago. I wanted Royal canin can but they didn't have it so they ordered for me but I don't even know if I can afford it. My poor dog is chewing himself raw. Just found a raw spot right on his anus where he has chewed himself! I got out his elizabethan collar and he took off to go hide! But if he doesn't leave it alone I will have to put it on. I've been trying to avoid putting him on steroids but looks like I'm going to have to. Along w the new food ($15.00 for the smallest bag )! He is also on Zyrtec BID.
Anyway sorry to get off topic. I'm concerned about both my furbabies.
Could that one piece of food throw skittles out of remission? His BG has been staying at 90, been testing every other day . Sorry but his SS is not up to date. I'm on my cell and don't know how to update on this.
I hope someone comes along soon ... :nailbiting:

So sorry, Sherri! I was already in dreamland when you posted this.

I don't think that one piece of food would really throw him out of remission. Check today...what kind of numbers are you seeing? Remember, when he first eats it, it could spike his numbers, but has to work its way back out. Keep an eye on him in the next day or so and if we need to give insulin, we'll figure it out.

I don't know what to tell you about the dog. I'm so sorry that he isn't feeling well! What does the vet say?

Hey Sherri - So glad that Skittles is walking better. I agree with Rachel that I wouldn't get too alarmed yet. Just take a couple more tests over the next couple of days. Remember dry food stays in the system a little longer so don't be concern if you get a little higher number today.

My dogs have environmental allergies. I try and do the holistic approach as well. This is what things I do:
* Give them raw honey - great properties to boost the immune system and aids digestion (usually give about 1 tsp BID)
* Coconut Oil - Decreases infections caused by allergies (for a 70 lb dog, I give a tablespoon BID)
* No grain in diets - Hills Sensitive Skin/Stomach has quite a bit of grains and carbs
* No vaccinations during allergy time - I don't vaccinate but just in case you have to
* Low Carb/minimally processed food for better digestion - no surprise here!
* When it gets really bad, I use Benadryl, sometimes Equate a generic Benadryl brand or Zyrtec too.

If you have itchy hot spots then:
* Check for fleas and/or ticks
* If fleas or ticks, I sprinkle DE (diamacteous earth food grade) on the skin. I also put a little in their drinking water too.
* For hot spots - Shave all around the area so sore is in the open
* Apply Aloe Vera gel to hot spot to minimize the itching
* Apply French Green Clay to hot spot to draws out the toxins and soothe the skin and I love this stuff and use it all the time for everything.

I also tried to the appropriate food just in case it was a food allergy and ended up trying all sorts of dog food over a six month (maybe more) period. Food allergies are harder to figure out. I did end up changing food and the one that they are on now is helping out too. It is very, very expensive too but it is helping out and they LOVE it. It is called Orijen Red. It is no grain and low in carbs.

Here is a good read: http://www.thrivingcanine.com/holistic_approach_dog_allergies

Good luck as I know the itching is so frustrating.
