I have an opportunity to get more Lantus pens. they are unopened and expire in 2016. Should I get them? They're free, from the manpanion's mom, who doesn't need insulin any longer. However, they will need to be transported in a car for eight hours. He would keep them in the trunk while he drives, and they would stay pretty cold. But obviously not refrigeration cold, I imagine. Outside temperature would be about 50° while he drove. What do you guys think? I just got my order of five pens today in the mail from Mark's pharmacy. And I bet I won't go through them for six months.

Grab them!! Any chance he has an insulated cooler for some sort? Even a heavy card board mailing box free from the post office would work. Have him wrap the pens in a couple layers of paper towels. Pack the wrapped pens in the box/cooler with a couple sandwich baggies full of ice cubes. They should get there nice and cool :-D

Then just use the ones that are going to expire the soonest first :-D
