So I think I am having storage shed issues. Didn't know about it till now - ugg! I see high numbers (305 and up, give him 2 U), the numbers drop to 200's (1U), then they go really low (below 100) and I don't shoot. I now see what I am doing wrong going from 2U to nothing to 2U. So I am supposed to just keep a constant dose regardless of how high his numbers go? I can't believe my vet didn't tell me about this! What do I do when his numbers go really high? Nothing? Just keep on trucking?

It would be exceptionally helpful to see your cat's spreadsheet in order to provide a more focused answer to your question. In general terms, yes, you shoot the same dose. Lantus dosing is not based on the pre-shot test number. Dosing decisions are based on the lowest value in the cycle. Please take a look at the Tight Regulation Protocol sticky at the top of the board. The parameters for when to reduce or increase are laid out.

And yes, your vet could have told you that Lantus is a depot-type drug. It probably would have been more helpful if your vet pointed out the need for consistent dosing. However, many vets are not terribly knowledgeable about Lantus and have people base dosing on what they know about shorter acting, non-depot types of insulin.
