I happened to pick up a couple cans of Sheba brand cat food at Walmart, while looking for a real meat treat for Lucian, which my Walmart doesn't carry btw and looked at the label for Sheba. There is nothing on the ingredient list that I can find, that would show any carbs, not even the wheat glutien that is in all the rest that I checked. Does anyone know anything about it? I didn't see it on Binky's list. Any info would be appreciated.

The Sheba Premium Pate are ok for diabetics. Be careful to pick the right can - the Premium Cuts in Gravy have the exact samel label.

I got the Sheba Premium Pate in Natural Juices, flavors are chicken, chicken and tuna and seafood entree', all are natural juices, not gravy. Did I do ok, or should I save them for my Hypo kit? I was hoping to find something different for a special treat, like when I do his curve this weekend.

I checked those links and can't thank you enough!! I guess I did ok for a newbe! :-D

I think Squeem is saying they are ok to feed since they arent gravy. But you could feed and test BG to see if it spikes an hour or so after.

Thank you all! I gave him half the chicken for dinner and he really liked it, I'll check his BG at 7:30 (EST) and he'll eat and get his shot at 8. We'll see what his BG is then and whether I'll feed him this sometimes or just keep it for special times, just a bit, ya know?

Lucian thanks you, too!! :-D

Sorry, I meant that the Premium Pate are ok to feed to a diabetic as meals and/or treats. The Premium Cuts in Gravy should only be used for a hypo. Someposted the carb content here: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=76522&p=827878&view=show#p827878

Just make sure to get the correct can because the labels are identical for the two different Premium lines

Do you have the links to the other food charts? Binky's is several years old and the info for many of the foods are out of date.

Thank you for the extra links.
I bought the right ones and only have honey or karo for hypo, guess I need a high carb food too, for the kit. Will get that soon, probably tomorrow. I'll get organized, I promise!
So much to take in.......but I'll get it!

Thanks again! Don't know what I would do without you all, bless you!

Yes, keep some high carb gravy foods on hand to use for a hypo. Anything over 18% carbs on the food charts are good to use. Fancy Feast sliced/grilled/gravy lovers/etc varieties are popular ones to use.

Here is a list of things to have in a "hypo emergency toolkit": http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2354

If you're unsure if a food is suitable for a diabetic, check the food charts. If it's not listed on a chart, post here on FDMB and ask  You can also do a board search to see if the food had been mentioned on the board before.
