I know that it is lo carb Jayla, but I don't know the exact %. I use the Chicken Pate for Shoes. It has 96.1 calories for a 3 oz can. I contacted the company for that information.

Both of us are doing well. We are outside in the back yard enjoying the early evening and not too humid day. He is pretty close to where I want him now. Thanks for asking.

Jayla, I'm not 100% certain of this but it is my belief that Sheba is very similar to FF in the % of carbs. I have tried them and some of them do make Squallie's BG go up, but he is so carb-sensitive that just looking at an extra carb can make his BG rise, lol!

This is what they told me earlier in the week. I asked what the as Fed % of carbs and metabolized % of carbs. I asked about the chicken pate and beef pate of canned and perfect portions.

Thanks for taking the time to contact us. We appreciate hearing from you because your feedback helps us make A BETTER WORLD FOR PETS®.

The SHEBA® PERFECT PORTIONS® Pate will contain approximately less than 1% carbohydrate. This will include canned SHEBA® ad well as PERFECT PORTIONS®.

So here are the values I got for the Pates (which all have the same as-fed values, according to the company):

Protein: 13.7
Fat: 6.9
Carbs: 1
Fiber .14
Ash 2.5
Moisture 75.9
Phosphorus .31g

Calories per can 113, with the exception of the beef, which is 114.

Translated to percent of calories:

Protein: 42.4%
Fat: 51.9%
Carbs: 3.1%
Fiber: .12 g per 100 kcal
Phosphorus: 274 mg per 100 kcal

Does anyone know why vets insist on feeding a diabetic cat the prescription food? I was told to put my Bixby on Purina DM, but I am hesitant to continue him on it as 1. its very expensive and 2. why should I?

Probably because that is what he was taught-- not to mention the kickback from Hills:confused:)
Possibly at the time he was in school we had less choices?

We have many choices and most are better quality and price for sure!
I rotate about 10 brands and flavors all under 10% carbs--many under 5%....

That is what vets are taught in school in their very very short topic on feline diabetes. The prescription food is really not that bad and is a known entity but is not necessary and is expensive.
