Hi everyone.
Well today marks the beginning of a new journey in my house. Moo started his diabetes treatment today with his first injection. Actually I got the first injection as I stabbed myself with saline while learning how to administer the meds at the vet.
I was just wondering if anyone know of a place online to get free sharps containers?
I googled it and had a few links but wasn't having any luck.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Some people just use an empty tin coffee can or plastic laundry detergent bottle and put used insulin syringes and other sharps into that. When the container is full, the container is tightly closed up and put out with the regular household trash.

There some info there on how to dispose of used sharps: http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=82019 Some vets and pharmacies may take back full Sharps container (it has to be a proper Sharps container, not a coffee can or anything) for disposal, sometmes for a small fee.

I believe if you buy the UltiCare brand of insulin syringes it may include a Sharps container as well.

Go to your city's/county's website and find how they specify how to dispose of them. It varies by jurisdiction. Where I live I just have to place them i a unbreakable, leak proof container like detergent bottle and seal the cap with tape and place in regular trash.

I buy the big...5? gallon red Sharps container...it takes MONTHS to fill it up...maybe even a year, I don't remember...it's worth paying for. They are quite cheap, esp. considering that they last soooo long. Makes life neat easy and safe. And then I take it to the vet or doctor for them to dispose of when it's full.

Thanks everyone! I think I may just get a needle cutter for a few bucks at walgreens....
Back up though, is a detergent bottle!
