Hi everyone,
anyinput would be great
I raised him this morning to 2 units and his numbers are even higher!!
does this happen often when raising a dose?

or is he just wacky?

Will you be able to get some mid cycle/nadir numbers this weekend? It is hard to tell what is going on with only the ps numbers. Sometimes they need a while with a dose to see movement, sometimes it is too high and you need to go down to a lower dose that looked better, sometimes they are going low and then bouncing back. More numbers will tell us more.

What did the vet say yesterday? Is he on medication? That can make a difference.

Hi Sue,
I just got back from the vet and I am confused
I am going to watch him over the weekend,
but my vet told me she want s me to stop taking his blood
she said it could be too much stress and she gave me something to put in the litter
to test for how much sugar is in his urine, which we know he has quite a bit

Is that a wise idea?
I really hate not knowing what his numbers are, do you think that could be it
but sometimes when I do test i can get good numbers
have you aver had a vet say that?

thanks for your input

I think some vets think that beans get overly stressed testing their cats. I know I would be stressed shooting blindly and not knowing whether my kitty was safe or not. I think the only way to deal safely with a diabetic kitty is to test before each shot and to get some numbers mid cycle.

The stuff in the litter will get you an idea of how much insulin is in his urine. That will tell you something about his sugar, long after his shot - after it has gone all the way through his body.

The testing is not stressing out the kitty. DKA and hypos stress out kitties! You give him a treat after each poke, right. Does he seem stressed about being tested?

So the vet didn't find anything wrong? What were his symptoms?

I think a curve would be a great thing to do this weekend to see what is going on.

Many vets will try to talk you out of home testing, and they all might have different underlying reasons. To say that it stresses a cat out as a blanket statement is crazy. Heck, Oscar comes looking for me at testing/shot time because he knows he will get food afterward. A stressed out cat wouldn't do that. As long as you train them right - with treats and lovin time - just about any cat out there can be tested with no stress at all.

Kim's vet tried to tell her that she'd make Kitty anemic by testing. Just goes to show you what kind of excuses they will come up with

thank you!
thats what I was thinking too,
I am so stressed just thinking of shooting him at a new dose and not testing
yes I am home this weekend and will be testing mid cycle

thank you all I feel better.
what i did not understand is that i have tested and he was at 70,
so how could the stress effect him,
plus he has been purring during test time becuase I let him smell and rub
the flashlight(yes I am blind)
and the needles and tester and he seems fine!

I will talk to you all tomorrow
hope you have a wonderful night!
