This is my second day of recording curve info. For those who weren't following, yesterday's curve looked good, but she reached nadir at +6 and then started rising sharply. She was up to 370 at +10 so the advice was to give her the shot then. She's recovering from neuropathy and given the rise I was afraid she'd go really high if I waited too much longer. By the time I got organized, it was nearly +11 when she got food and then a shot. I didn't retest, though I wish I would have now. At +6 after that last shot yesterday, she was down to 288. This morning though, she is a puzzle, as her starting BG was 284, nearly +12 after the last shot. What's up with that? She's had other times when there wasn't much change though, then she starts spiking high levels a few days later. I really think her pancreas is sometimes working OT and sometimes not so much. Either that, or the PZI just isn't controlling her BG in a reliable manner. It's confusing. At any rate, here's her numbers for today. Will continue to edit throughout the day as new data is added.

AMPS = 284, gave 2 units
+3 = 139
+6.5 = 395
PMPS = 476
+4 = 587!!!! (did I give a fur shot PM???)
+10 = >600 (am sure she got a fur shot now! gave 1U insulin early)

NOTE: I'm not having much time today to do a full curve, so it has been at +3 hour intervals so far. As you can see, she dropped and then shot up. Wish I could have gotten others in, but really busy today. There won't be any time to do more curves for the beginning part of the week with my work schedule. Maybe on Friday, but not before.

Since you shot early last night that can give the shot a little extra oomph, and that could explain the lower PS today. It's pretty good news really, b/c it suggests that you can get good duration. Sometimes shooting here and there at +10s or +11 can help you improve duration, without needing to go as far as TID shooting.

As for the variability in numbers, that is common, and there can be a lot of reasons. I'd try not to stress about it too much, it's just one of those things that comes with the territory. Often it's a factor of the dose not being quite right, but there are also tons of other reasons - the effects of food, stress, exercise, pancreas action, and just day to day variability, among other things.

Now I'm back to thinking the dose might be a hair too high. You already have a 50% drop by +3, might be ok, but might be a little stronger than you really want, especially as you get to lower PSs. Based on what I'm seeing so far I would probably try 1.8 or 1.9 as your dose, and possibly pull back a little further on PSs between 150 & 200 (if you are shooting at all below 200).

But we'll see how today shapes up.
