Shadows PH Remains to High After Switching to Raw.

Had to take both Shadow and Silky in for FIV testing after a stray Manx tested positive for it.
Decided to have a follow up urinalysis for Shadow due to that blockage earlier in the year.
Here is what I just got back.

As some of you know I have switched to a home made raw diet. The only commercial food either cat receives is a little bit of fresh pet along with the raw.
Any advice would be much appreciated. I am rather surprised and baffled by this development as a meat died is supposed to bring the PH down.
It is now actually higher than when he had the blockage.
I am rather confused by this development.

Advise please.

- What specific raw diet are you feeding?
- Feed something to acidify the urine
Prior to the development of specialized diets, urinary acidifiers such as vitamin C or dl-methionine were sometimes used to lower the pH of the urine in cases of struvite stones, for example. Specialty diets are now preferred since they alter not only the pH, but the concentration of stone-forming constituents. Remember: Do NOT give urinary acidifiers when you are using one of the specialty diets that also acidify urine.

Note that you can overdue the acidification and create oxalate stones that can't be dissolved.

I am using Dr Piersons formula.
No acidifiers have been added. I had not intend to add any.
It was my understanding that a meat diet would naturally bring the pH to normal levels.

Since Shadows problems began with commercial foods I was expecting a natural raw diet to solve the problem.
He lived approx 2 years in the wild eating nothing but squirrels and other rodents.

I have put him back on Hills c/d.
Need to get a blood test done and track down what exactly is causing the protein in the urine. Hopefully it is not permanent kidney damage due to his blockage.
Going to be needing some advice on supplements that promote kidney health.
