Shadow's not feeling well.... again....

The beginning of September Shadow started to have symptoms of what we thought might be a flare up of pancreatitis. We started treating with buprenex and Sub Q fluids. He seemed to start feeling better.

About a week ago he started to have the same symptoms. Not eating all his food, clay colored loose stools and intermittent vomiting. Restarted the buprenex and started pepcid twice a day. Also started giving B12 injections once a week.

I'm wondering, how long a cat can stay on buprenex? The vet did mention trying digestive enzymes also. Didn't want to start too many new things at once. I had also mentioned something for nausea...

Your vet may suspect exocrine pancreatic insufficiency due to the clay colored stool. Without the enzymes, Shadow may not be able to digest food properly and will lose weight and feel ill. Please consider using them. Mercola makes a version which may be used.
 
I did a search ( there is a search option up at the top right corner ) for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.
There are numerous posts with information about it. And of course, BJM can answer more questions for you about it.
I didn't see just one so I thought I'd point you at the search box.
It does sound like something to try.
 
Your vet can do a blood test for EPI. My Bailey has it and those are typical symptoms. You need to give B12 plus mix enzymes with every meal in order for him to process food .

Thanks Wendy. Just posted a new thread about Shadow and how I'm going to be talking to the vet tomorrow. Is it safe to give the enzymes without testing?
 
Yes. We think Tiggy might have the issue and the vet said just give the enzymes anyway. Makes it easier since we have two cats that share bowls. With the enzymes you will see a difference almost immediately (in a day or two) with the poops as soon as you reach the right dose. Are his poops very smelly?
