Shadow update!

I am hoping slow and steady wins the race. After starting over and increasing Shadow's dose of BCP PZI U100 in .5 unit increments every 5-7 days, there looks to be some response in his numbers. I am hoping yellow will be the trending color this week. He is feeling better; more animated and interested in the other cats and birds at the feeder. Much less peeing again, but continues to be voraciously hungry. Ketones are negative but harder to catch him peeing these days!!! He is still willing to eat the green bean/tuna combo that I use to bulk out his food and help him feel fuller; not sure how much longer that will work as his hunger decreases. Hope everyone is doing ok - here in Delaware spring keeps springing and then it snows!

Hi Diane - those yellows look good - it took Murphy a long time to get settled into the insulin - slow and steady does win the race - I also read that some people put cooked egg whites in food to increase the protein content - that might also bulk it up
You might want to put together a signature with specifics about Shadow (including his food, weight, other dx, etc)

Carol - I thought I did that at one time but it never 'took'. I will do that(or try). Also how can I get Shadow's spreadsheet to look more compressed so you don't have to use the slider? In case I can't get the signature to work, Shadow is eating classic Fancy Feast and his tuna/bean delight is one can of tuna in water plus one can of no-salt green beans, smooshed up together. He gets a heaping tablespoon of that fiendish goo + 1/4 can FF in between his main meals. he gets about 4 cans of FF a day; hopefully I can cut that back a little when he is less ravenous. He weighs between 10 and 12 pounds, and has no other health problems that presented on his exam/blood work). And to keep me humble, I just got a 314 at +6 . ;)

Hi Diane
what I did with my spreadsheet is make all the columns smaller and make the font smaller - do you know how to do that? I have a Mac but you should also be able to click "zoom out" to be able to see all of the columns of the spreadsheet. I still have to use the slider bar at the bottom to see the whole thing, though

For your signature, click on your account - and then signature - be sure to click on save changes when you are finished and you should be all set
Most people here don't think you should give fish more than once a week, especially tuna - due to the risk of mercury poisoning. Also, the human tuna doesn't have taurine in it - what about using pumpkin to bulk up? I have the opposite problem- my cat is a terrible eater and I try to find the highest calorie food packed into the smallest volume that I can -
maybe post something on the health forum about how to bulk up foods

There's a thread right now on the health forum that is posting about food http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/...-opinions-about-brands-of-canned-food.154725/ maybe there's something on that thread that could help you (they talk about fish)

Thanks for the reminder about the fish. I will begin a change with that. The tuna is primarily to flavor the green beans but I can do that with almost any wet food. I need to find a non-grain food that Shadow and my little neuro girl Sissy can both eat. I wish I could afford to feed them all a higher quality food but we do the best we can. Sissy is having very loose stools and is getting a small amt of Immodium a little later today but I pretty sure it's the FF. And I will try to mess with the spreadsheet!!!!!
