Y'all I am so frustrated, I dragged my feet getting Shaak restarted on her insulin, it felt like surely as soon as she is over UTI she will just drop back down into the double digits... blinders blinders, I am so unrealistic about some things. So here I am with Shaak's numbers higher than they have ever been. I worked up to 3 units Novolin N and now after five days at that, I am up to 3.5 u and her numbers are only dropping to the 300's. I know this is all my fault for not getting busy in December when she was still in the 100's, I should have started giving her a drop of insulin right then. Then came late December (Christmas Eve actually)and I started her on just a drop, thinking surely it would only take a little bit. Then by mid January It was back to taking Braiden to work, Kirby to classes and then my health started dropping and I had to pay attention to that. I am still sick but hopefully soon my health gets a bit better, I will be starting a CPAP machine soon, so here's to that working. However, I was unable to get a good schedule going for Shaak's shots, I fall asleep sometimes and don't wake up for two hours and I got so unsure of falling asleep and missing BG's that I was scared to use enough insulin to make a difference. I have been slowly adding more about every week or so, now I have changed doses within five days the last two times.

Which leads me to ... Shaak only weighs 9 lbs now, last year she was 11.5 and she dropped down 9.5 but was a healthy 9.5 lbs
now she is an unhealthy 9 lbs and I worry because before remission the largest dose she ever got was 1 u and that lasted for a very short time, then it was .5 u and then.25 u and within 7 weeks she was in remission. Now here she is 2.5 lbs skinnier and she is up to 3.5 u. I am starting to wonder if something is wrong with the insulin? Do you think I should buy another vial, expenses being what they are I was really hoping to avoid that for a few months, but if need be I will do it. The insulin was bought in December and has never been out for too long? Any thoughts or ideas I am up for hearing, only thing is I can't switch insulin types. Novolin N is all I can afford, as it is I have increased food consumption and that with the extra cost in litter, 20lb box a month, Now 40 lb box litter a month. so it has doubled. She got on remission with Novolin N and I am going to do my very best to get her back on it. I have even thought of asking Dr since Novolin N has such a short timespan if I might give 3 shots a day. It is in and out of her system right now within five hours. It is an in/out insulin after all.

Anyway, thanks Y'all

Is it possible she's has some glucose toxicity from being high so long?
I'm not sure how long Novolin N lasts. Are you feeding extra food to help her gain some weight? It took us 6 months for chuck to gain 2 pounds! He's a high dose kitty and not regulated. That makes it harder for them to gain from what I can tell.
I'm sure the pros will check in and give you some more insight on what the issue could be.

I doubled her food intake about 6 weeks ago. I don't know how long it takes for toxicity to set in. she was in the 200's last month and last month climbed to the 300's, now in last two weeks she has hit 400's.
