Shaak got a good report at vet, numbers in all areas are good, of course that is with insulin and not OTJ. As for behavior problems, she said with all going on in family life she believes that Shaak is reacting to my stress by becoming just as stressed as I am, she then suggested I could try one of the many supplements for calming and reducing stress in cats. She suggested a diffuser as well, but there is one available plug that works in bathroom and it only works when you leave the light and bathroom fan blower on. That would waste a whole lot of electricity. there isn't a plug in the hallway at all, and this is where she does most of her peeing. So the question is which supplement do I try, there are a few on amazonsmile?

Hi Cathie, glad Shaak got a good report at the Vet :). Was the diffuser suggested the Feliway / Comfort Zone one? Either way, both brands also make sprays if you don't have an outlet nearby the area.

Cool. I bought the feliway spray. I just was thinking I might double up and get a supplement treat as well. Also, the feliway products aren't the same enzymes that are in the urine cleaning sprays are they? Because I have been through more than a gallon of those products mopping this week and she just pees everywhere anyway.

Shouldn't be, the Feliway spray contains pheromone that calms kitty.

ETA: Just be wary of the carb content of the supplement treats. I had to stop giving my boy his UTI treats after calculating the carbs. Was just preventative but would not have helped his diabetes.

@Yong You can give d-mannose for UTI issues. I have had Squallie on it for quite a while and it has never affected his BG.

Sorry, Cathy, not trying to hijack your thread!:bighug:

What cleaner are you using? You could try putting a box where she pees most often.

Scrubbing bubbles and water rinse on litter box and enzyme cleaner on floors.

There is not a spot in the hall or bathroom, or kitchen she doesn't pee on. However her favorite spots are in my doorway and the bathroom doorway. Can't put litter box in those places. My coordination would never make it to bathroom if I had to broad jump over litter boxes.

Yeah in a doorway won't work. Lol

The scrubbing bubbles might be an offensive smell to her. Next box cleaning try using just a mild dish soap like dawn. And rinse well.

My favorite cleaner for floor messes is called Anti Icky Poo Unscented.... It leaves no pee OR cleaner smell behind. I get it on amazon.

will it mix with water?

will the anti icky poo mix with water, or will that weaken the scent, Our roommate is 68 and can't tell where the pee is on floor, he tracks it all over the apartment, so I am mopping twice a day in addition to cleaning up puddles.

You don't need to water it down. Just spray it on.
They sell it in quart size spray bottles and gallon refill size. Amazon.con

Have you tried putting puppy training pads down?

she ignores puppy pads, she will only go on the tile.

so what should I mop the floor with before spraying? I was using a teaspoon of clothing detergent and a quarter cup of bleach. Then once that drys I have been spraying whole floor with enzyme spray called OUT and letting it dry.

You just mop it up then apply the cleaner.

I am reading about P-Bath and anti icky poo odor remover on Amozon. P-Bath says it is not a cleaner of dirt type messes, it only cleans up previous cleaner scent. Then you spray anti icky poo odor remover over floor and just let it dry. So that means I will mop with clothing detergent and quarter cup bleach, then mop with P-Bath, then spray anti icky poo odor remover and pray she will not pee on the floor. I will also be using feliway spray, should I spray that in air or on floor too, or walls of kitchen, hall, and bathroom. Does anyone know where to get Rescue Remedy drops? @Marje and Gracie once gave me some but she has been really busy lately so I don't know if she will respond.

what about this product

I never tried the p-bath.

The feliway spray will have directions on it. I don't use the feliway spray but have had good results with the plug-ins.

Hi Cathie

All of those calming treat products will potentially raise her BG. Each one of them has one or more ingredients that AE not BG friendly.

Three things I might suggest:
  • Buy Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract litter. I've yet to hear of a peeing out of the box issue that it didn't resolve when it is not a health related issue
  • Read this page and watch the short video Why Does My Cat Pee Ouside the Box (there might be good cleaning solutions here as well)
  • I think there are better flower essences (which is what Rescue Remedy is) to help this issue. You might check out Jackson Galaxy's line of flower essences. I think one he suggests for litter box issues is Safe Space for Cats. I'm also a big fan of Green Hope Farm Animal Wellness Flower essences and you might look a the one for litter box issues.
I hope this helps....

Thank you. I will look these up right now. I hope you are doing well. One day we would love to come see Livvie and Tobey.

I am looking at Jackson Galaxy flower essences, not sure which one applies to a cat being stressed because owner is stressing over life situation

So get the one that will destress YOU the best. :)

I never thought of that! LOL! I think I will look into that.I do sprinkle Lavender oil on my pillow at night, and we have a Lavender bedroom spray I got at a hotel in Hilton Head Island, SC. I gave up my ativan and Oxycodone, I have started dry needling, which is basically acupuncture, and I now wear a tens unit on my back. I just want to do away with some of my medications, but I still haven't found anything to help me stay non stressed, meditation doesn't work because I can't empty my mind, and my other go to is to listen to meditation cd's of beautiful calming music of pianos and guitars and rain and ocean sounds.

Cathie

I'm betting the oil you use is an essential oil. These are usually toxic to cats. They can absorb them through their skin even if you use them in s room or on your pillow and they can cause serious health issues.

Try guided meditation videos as well as yoga for stress relief.

I will try the guided meditation cd's I got a couple of years ago. My therapist gave them to me and I just never used them, though in her office they worked great. I just never seem to have the time to meditate. Life gets in way of life. Most yoga poses I can't do any more but I used to be very proficient at yoga
