Cathie and Shaak Ti (GA)

Member Since 2016
so since Shaak came out of remission in December she has gone up to almost 500 at times and into the high 100's as well. I feed her Pumpkin for diarrhea twice a day in her FF chicken pate'. I ran out of pumpkin last night and skipped her Pumpkin and when I took her BG it was 117, this was before insulin and after one hour of food. I have been occasionally checking her one hour after eating just for curiosity sake. So I am in a dilemma now, as it would seem the higher BG's might be because of Pumpkin. I really don't want to stop giving her pumpkin, it is the only thing that helps the diarrhea, she had two diarrhea incidents since no pumpkin last night, I am not eager to have to clean any more carpet. I have disposable people pads laid out everywhere because of her peeing inappropriately, I also heard someone on the board say their vet gave them something for not using litter box and now their cat is using litter box just fine, is this true? I never have heard of a medication to make our kitties use litter box if they don't want to, and like I say once again, have tried many things to stop the diarrhea and only Pumpkin works. When she was in remission she did not eat Pumpkin and did not have diarrhea ever, though before remission I gave her pumpkin as well, I stopped about three weeks before she went into remission. I hope this is not all too difficult, I seem to be speaking in circles. As an added note I have tried multiple litter boxes and it does not help. Oh yeah, and also very important, when she pees on kitchen and bathroom hard tile she licks the pee. Not all of it but quite a bit.

Which pumpkin were you using? Can you post a link or image of it? There is a litter called Cat-Attract that can help with litter box avoidance if there's not health reason causing the lack of using.

The last part is a first for my ears... Hopefully someone here has experienced that so they can help give you some insight :)

I haven't heard anyone comment on sugar content in pure pumpkin puree. Have you checked what is listed in the ingredients? Regarding drinking her own urine I think that is a first for me too hearing about something like this. Is she dehydrated possibly?

I thought about it too but the only ingredient listed is Pumpkin. Since it is a fruit it will have natural sugars. Other thought was try an organic pure pumpkin. Sorry I'm not much more help Cathie :(

Maybe say she is missing some kind of mineral or nutrient..I have heard of animals eating their own waste because of something they are missing in their diet or they have some sort of deficiency. Never heard of the pee thing though. Has she had recent blood work?
