1+ was 336, I must have gotten a furshot, I thought it was perfect shot, I inserted needle not touching plunger and after inserted I pressed plunger and held for a count of 10 and when I pulled the needle out and checked there was no insulin left.. Now I am frustrated.

Remember, it could also be a bounce. Did you feel any wetness at the injection site?

In the L forum we also date the title and start a new thread every day, but I'm not sure if that's necessary here. I'm sure someone will let you know:)

Keeping the title updated with readings will help others scanning the board to see things going on- just in case one of your normal mentors isn't around.
 
Meters have a 20% variance, allowable by the powers that be. So your two numbers are statistically the same. I find it encouraging that she didn't start right down. A slower more gradual drop is preferable. Also, food raises levels so the food may be part of that first number.

Great job getting the testing in. Think how much you have learned since you first got the diagnosis! I hope you have found time to reflect on that and congratulate yourself.

it went down, yay! not much, but maybe that is not so bad, it's yellow.

and Shaak was chasing a string a little while ago, something she has not done in a while is play. She is so beautiful!

100 points in an hour is actually quite a bit, but it's not so steep as it has been. I think this is good progress! Get a +3 please.

I'm glad Andy and Sue are around. We are going out for a long hike for the day since we have such a gorgeous day in Tucson and I won't be able to check in. Maybe she will see some more blue today!!! Big hugs.

I didn't know they all smelled like that, I thought it was just Lantus. Yeah, you'll smell it!!

Interesting. That's well within meter variance so we'll consider it flat with the last reading - until there is a trend to prove otherwise. Did Marje and Sue want you to do a full curve, testing every hour?
 
I wouldn't wear yourself or her out testing. She has a nice slow drop so far. Maybe try for a +5. That should tell you if she is headed up and how fast
 
just thought of an odd question. Is black coffee off limits for Shaak, she has been known to enjoy a tablespoon or so when we are having our coffee. Not really sure about the caffeine. Thought I would ask.
 
+1 on the purebites and I agree I wouldn't let her have coffee.

If she grooves the purebites buy them in the dog size bag, it's much cheaper.:)
 
baked chicken breast, would I be able to give her one tiny bite of that with her shot, looking for a way to make her a little less jumpy, if she knew a tasty treat was coming she might like the idea a little better.

Marge brought over some PureBites in shrimp and some chicken breast and she has turned her nose up at them. I have tried a few times but no go.




on a different note I got her lab results from all her blood work. I have spent the last hour researching:

one low EOS (eosiniphils-WBC) wrote up as much info on possible reasons why could have that.
most interesting thing I found out about eosiniphils was Hyperadrenacorticism (excessive cortisol, adrenal glands) symptoms (Shaak has all of these symptoms)were

  1. excessive thirst
  2. muscle wasting/weakness
  3. skin changes/thin fragile skin/hair loss/poor coat condition/hair loss
Hyperadrenacorticism makes managing feline diabetes difficult, excessive cortisol interferes with effects of insulin.



high (barely in the high range) MCV (mean corpuscular volume) again wrote up as much info on possible reasons why could have that.


high (barely in the high range) NEU (Neutrophils- WBC) again wrote up as much info on possible reasons why could have that.


high (barely in the high range) WBC (white blood cells) have not looked up yet, but I know from school white blood cells are up to fight diseases and infections. Not sure what else.


anyway, just wanted to share what all I found out after I left the vet's office today, definitely been busy.

Not bad at all. She didn't jump up in the last 4 hours. I'd say the whole cycle looks okay - she didn't jump up in really high numbers at the end, her nadir was fairly early but she "surfed" along for most of the cycle.

How are you coming along with the diet change? Changing her to wet low carb could bring her levels down 100 points or more.
 
That'll be a good start. I am guessing you've been given Dr. Lisa's transitioning ideas: www.catinfo.org.

You might also get a lower carb dry while you work on the transition. I couldn't find the Glycobalance on our charts but most of the other Royal Canin dry foods run in the 30% carb range. We suggest under 8-10%.

Thanks! It was just gorgeous today. I have some R and it smells like band aids and the lev definitely did.
 
I mentioned Young Again Zero Carb to Cathie when I went over and we also discussed slowly transitioning her to wet.

@Cathie and Shaak Ti ...try not to worry about those blood values right now. Cushing's is rare in cats and let's see if some of those symptoms resolve with insulin. The WBCs elevated could indicate infection and that would be the one I'd be most concerned about now.
 
trying to get my ducks in a row, when I go to add the fancy feast classic to her dry food on Wednesday what ratio should I use. I give her 2.5 ounces at each of her feedings.

I will try not to worry about blood values, I was immediately worried about feline leukemia with the WBC's
 
I would just give her a tiny bit of wet in with her dry.....like a fingernail-sized bite. Baby steps.

WBCs aren't a good indicator of FeLk as there are a lot of conditions which would result in elevated WBCs. There is s specific test for FeLk and I would be extremely surprised if the shelter hadn't tested and vaccinated her for it.

Looks like she will let you sleep again tonight.
 
If she's bouncing, she's bouncing pretty hard just from blue. I would have expected to see more blue by now but @Sue and Oliver (GA) will know better how typical this might look.

Great job of testing. For now, and Sue can verify, but I think once she is past +6 and headed up, you probsbly are good to give her ears a break.
