Sevy - new thread

I want to hear about him marching around and meowing! 😀
image.jpg And you got your wish lol this boy has been marching and yodeling (legit feels like that’s what he is going for) thank you for the link! Going to come in handy for tomorrow 💕

Hi all,

It's been a long time since I've posted here, but I wanted to come back and thank you all for the help and support you've given me with Sevy over these months.

Unfortunately, I have a sad update. Sevy's age has caught up with him, and his quality of life has declined rapidly. After a lot of thought and many tears, I've made the difficult decision to let him go this Thursday.

I can't thank this community enough for everything you've taught me. The advice and support I found here helped me give Sevy a few more good months, and I got to see a level of comfort, happiness, and energy from him that I hadn't seen in quite a while. Those extra moments mean more to me than I can put into words.

This isn't the update I ever hoped I'd be making, but I wanted to let you all know and say thank you. Sevy has been my best friend/son for a very long time, and I'm incredibly grateful for every day I've had with him.

Thank you all. 💕 (even when in pain he still head first in his food bowl )

Oh no!!! I don’t want to hear this. I am crying. I am so so sad to read this news, Joha. How can this be? You have taken amazing care of him. It will be so crushing to say goodbye. I pray that your last days with him will be special and peaceful. Give him lots of his favorite foods. You have my thoughts and prayers and a tremendous amount of sympathy and love coming your way across the miles. I wish there was something else I could do.

I’m so very sorry. Sevy is adorable, and you can tell he has so much personality just from that photo of his head in a bowl. And while we don’t know each other, I can tell how much you’ve loved and cared for him, just from your words. Sevy is a really lucky kitty to have been your best friend and son (though I’m sure you’d say the same about yourself for having been his caregiver).

You and Sevy will be in my thoughts and prayers. Sending you both lots and lots of love.

I know! I have not been able to stop crying and the way he been consuming his gravy has help a bit. He was doing so much better, but it has been a tough two/three months of just not being able to give him the comfort he needs (even with pain meds) or him just not being able to do anything he enjoys…it like a different sect..he never been so quite. The vet just gave me the hard truth that there’s nothing we can do to stop age. We managed his diabetes really well but his bones and hip just aren’t helping him

I should not ask this because I know you tried everything but did you try Solensia. He has been in a lot of pain? I am so sorry about that. Sometimes we have to cause ourselves a massive amount of pain in order to set our babies free from their bodies that are failing them. To say that it is hard is a gross understatement. I recently had to do the same. Sevy will always be a part of you though.

We went back and forth on whether to try Solensia but since it would require him to go to the vet monthly, which causes him extreme distress, (my vet had to keep reminding me how much the vet visits affect Sevy) and how he was/behavior on his last vet visit. It just would be more harmful than good to him. Also, how quickly he his body started deteriorated and weight loss even with the increase of food and pain meds….

I am so so sorry you had to do the same recently. I will have you in my prayers. Thank you so much for your kinda words and I hope you are taking the time you need for yourself. Sending love to you and thinking of your sweet baby too.

I think you have considered everything for what has been best for dear Sevy. I am impressed with how your vet has considered Sevy’s individual personality as well. There’s probably something else going on too — with weight loss at the same time as he’s eating a lot of food. This happened to my boy Marcus. Even the vets couldn’t figure out what was really going on and we tried everything.

We think he might have potentially dislocated or hurt his lower back too since he has been prone to falls even when walking. Just sadly too much at once

My vet is very much a cat person not people one. Made sure the decisions and approaches we do with Sevy were realistic. He was always on Sevy’s court and kept reminding me that just cause I can/willing doesn’t mean Sevy is/can. The good news is that he is getting all the food he loves and all the cuddles but hard to see how much can change in such little time.

hard to see how much can change in such little time.
It is hard, isn’t it? The vets call it “decompensating.” Cats are such little troopers and they soldier on until all of a sudden they can’t anymore and it seems like they just go downhill very quickly. Another thing that can make it even harder is that some days you really think it’s the end and the next thing they seem so much better. My heart will be with you today. The world will be a poorer place without Sevy in it.
