Hi

after two months, the vet felt there was a clear enough picture to begin treatment w/Senvelgo. Best choice for us, given the current knowledge, and temperaments of owner and kitty.

so far so good. No apparent side effects.

checking urine ketones daily. Negative.

Will do BG on day 7 when control is expected. (I did gain this competency with copious treats, easy on warm ear, v difficult on cold ear!).

will check kidneys et Al at 3-4 weeks from start.

Looking forward to getting extra time with my boy, who has been through an ordeal with this! They are such troopers for us, aren’t they? ‍⬛❤️

regarding purchasing blood glucose metres, if you would forgive a newbie for giving feedback. I felt like there were 2 key points here : that was to get a Relion , and to get a metre that sips.( yes, I’m sure there are extensive write ups in this site, but given the headspace that one is in at the beginning ).

From my experience, those were a contradiction, I ended up buying the contour after the relion, as the relion does not sip (you do not have time to add more blood ). Inexpensive in the USA.

There's no big preference for meters. The strips for the Relion are inexpensive which is why people gravitate toward that meter. We tend to encourage the use of a human meter since the information on dosing insulin is based on data from human meters. Vets have only recently been promoting a pet-specific meter (which has hugely expensive strips) or a continuous glucose monitor (i.e., the FreeStyle Libre) which is a human meter but don't seem to appreciate the contradiction.

Whatever works for you and Chavvie is good.
