Hi everyone so it’s day 7 on Senvelgo still zero ketones… last night and this morning his blood glucose levels are reading low 3.1mmol and continues through the morning to 2.9mmol on the Libre so after the advice on here I did a prick test there is a marked difference Libre is reporting 2.9mmol/L and the prick test is reporting 6.0mmol/L which is perfect range so glad I was told this information otherwise I’d be loading him with Carbs right now. He really doesn’t care about being prick tested and I’m wondering if I should just stick with prick testing and checking ketones as he’s on Senvelgo… I still want to monitor his bloods along with the ketones but looks like I can’t trust the Libre at lower levels I did two prick tests on him both was reading a lot higher than the Libre

Can I ask at what level is the Libre accurate as in shows the same as a prick test or does it show higher across all the readings hi and low? Thanks in advance

We have found when the libre drops under 100 it can become unreliable.
If you can test yourself there is no need to continue with the libre. And please keep testing for ketones
Bron and Sheba That’s super helpful I did suspect the Libre was giving false readings but that piece of information really puts my mind at rest a bit … I’m religiously checking for ketones everyday and will continue longer than it says I don’t want to take any chances with him and if he looks a bit out of sorts I’ll check then too better safe than sorry I say

As you yourself experienced the irregularity of the Libre, and you would have been pumping carbs, so you are best with the lancet and hand monitor, for precise as possible on his BG numbers, you don't want to get a false reading pump carbs, otherwise you really will not be able to see the insulin results, how dosing is doing to the BG number, for real, and with the drastic up and down of glucose, the pancreas damage even more, regulation, stability, and a good constant cycle is the game changer, and of course low carbs between 0-10%
On the Libre, on your screen the highest number you will see is no more than 365 after that you will see HI , on the lows when Corky had the Libre2, the LOW alarm I had it set for 90BG, but in the middle of the night the alarm would go off and the monitor would say 45-50, I would go frantic it was the first few weeks from when he was diagnosed, the sensors would stop working before the 14 days or fall off, I was at the point of a nervous breakdown and sleepless nights, it was not until I got the ReliOn Premier meter and strips that he had the last few days left on the sensor, so I kept it on, learning how to test, and when I checked against the Libre and monitor there were at minimum 20 BG short on low and 15 on High. It was a nightmare, jumping out of bed getting the Karo syrup and so on. I would stick to the hand monitor and strips; you will both be happier and healthier;):bighug::bighug::cat::cat:

CORKY Oh my word you’ve just described my last month of this it’s been horrendous not sleeping my vet was so worried about me and she thought the same that the Libre probably isnt a good idea and when I found out it’s not reliable at lower levels I moved to prick test to compare and it’s been a game changer in the fact I’m not freaking out every 5minutes and now I feel so guilty because in the early days I was putting carbs into him and he probably was never that low he must of felt awful so yes definitely prick test and check for ketones is the way forward . The Libre is good on paper but I do think in principle it causes more distress for the owner because not being a vet in the beginning I relied on the sensor and I was glued to the thing

I hear you loud and clear, Corky left the hospital with one one,I had no idea what FD was, I did the same pump the Kari, because I still had no knowledge about the food content he grew up on MeauMix kibbles, and the food I was told to purchase had 25+ carbs for diabetic cats, I spend the first5-6 months in terror, and after spending $9,000+ I was broke I couldn't Even take him to the Vet if I wanted to, horrifying, then by some coincidence, I saw this Forum, never looked back again , I trust these experts members blindly, Corky has not stepped paw in a Vets office yet, of course all cats are different, Corky has no other ailment and in excellent health inside spoiled cat☺️, I rely on this Forum, they are right on point, stick around!!:bighug::bighug::cat::cat:
