My daughter's 2yr male Siamese has started having siezures/muscle spasms: it's like his whole left side sorta cramps up. They started about a month ago & seem to be more frequent and lasting longer. He doesn't seem to be in any pain, just confused, then comes out of it & is completely normal. It's always the left side.

She took him to the vet Monday: running a full battery of bloodwork & so far, everything has come back negative. Still waiting on toxoplasmosis and one or two others that take longer.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Sounds like seizures. Was his glucose high in the test? It would be if he had recently had a seizure, but probably not if it had been a while since his last seizure. Please make sure that they take his blood pressure, just to be sure. Three readings should be taken and an average of the three.

Yes. It sounded like classic seizures. I'm sorry about that, too! But phenobarbital and other drugs can help. It would be nice if they could find a root cause that could be treated, though. Hugs to your daughter!
just heard from her: they're going to treat him for toxoplasmosis (I think that's a longshot) as well as give him anti-seizure meds of some variety. Also gave her the name of 2 specialists for scans. Would it be appropriate for her to try the meds first, see how he does then do the scans? She doesn't have a lot of money, but of course wants to what's best for the kitty

@Susan for Artemis (Maus) I had this happen with Louf. I am still not sure what caused it. His sugar was very high at that point like 700s. Initially we put him on Gabapentin twice a day and Zonisamide once a day. Now he is down to Zonisamide once a day and knock on wood he’s been fine since that day. I don’t recommend the Gabapentin. It was more of a sedative to relax him in the beginning so we phased it out but the Zonisamide of great. We had done a lot of tests too and they all came back normal. So the medications may be the best option I know the testing can be so expensive. He would tense up twist his mouth and sort of go limp on one side and raise one paw. It was continual and awful but since the meds it’s been good.

Vet prescribed phenobarbital, 15mg 2x daily and clindamycin (antirobe), 75mg 2x daily (30 days) for the toxoplasmosis until the test results come back (Sunday/Monday'ish).

I hope kitty is feeling better very soon. The phenobarbital should help to stop the seizure activity if it hasn’t stopped yet.

Has she used any flea/tick medications recently?
Has the cat been exposed to any toxins, including plants or human medications?

I used to have a dog, Sculley, that had seizures. She was put on phenobarbital and went from having multiple seizures a day to only a few in a month. Hopefully the meds will help your daughters cat

No flea or tick & the only plant is my jade but he pretty much leaves it alone unless a 'leaf' gets knocked off then he might bat it around a a few minutes then forget about it. I used to have a silly calico who would 'pluck' leaves off just to play with them & I ended up netting it because she was quickly defoliating it :blackeye:
My daughter uses pot for anxiety, but that would probably be good for seizures o_O. She only smokes outside & as far as I know, he's never taken an interest in her 'stash' but I'll check
