Seizures from hyperglycemia

My Oscar was recently diagnosed with diabetes and this came shortly after he had two grand mal seizures. Most of the information available attributes seizures with hypoglycemia, but not hyperglycemia.

Has anyone else seen or heard about seizures in cats experiencing hyperglycemia before?

It is entirely possible he may have been poisoned after being outside in the rain and potentially walking through old pesticide (from ants this summer) but I'm not sure how likely that could be. I have since rinsed any areas that are covered from the rain but may have pesticide residue. I'll also prevent him from going to these areas, just in case.

Both seizures occurred within 12 hours of each other, but no seizures since. These seizures occurred before the diabetes diagnosis.

Thanks in advance!

I've never heard of seizures associated with hyperglycemia unless there was another underlying condition. Hypoglycemia yes but not hyper. :( I'd definitely keep him out of those poison areas.

@Stephanie & Quintus - He's dropped a little weight, about 0.5 lbs and is currently at 14.5 lbs. He's a big cat (big boned) and could stand to lose a few pounds.

It's pretty much unknown what led to his seizures at this point. On the plus side, they have not happened again. I'm speculating about the many possibilities but the correlation between his diabetes diagnosis and the seizures had me thinking they were related.

Only time will tell.

Thanks for your info!
