Lantus is the most popular insulin around here because it has a published protocol that was written by a vet (and a researcher) that we follow, but other insulins that work well in cats are Levemir and ProZinc
The size of the needle is still super tiny, but the
syringe size is different...Vetsulin is a U40 insulin, so you should have been using a U40 syringe.....Lantus is a U100 insulin, so you need syringes for U100 insulins to use it.
The syringes you'd use are 3/10ml, 30 or 31 gauge, 8mm U100 syringes
If you decide to go with Lantus or Levemir, they're both human insulins available at any pharmacy, but they're expensive! Most of us are buying our Lantus or Levemir from Canada now because it's about $150 instead of $450.
Information on ordering from Marks Marine (where most of us are buying from) can be found in the last post in the
"Insulin from Canadian Pharmacies" thread
You'll be better off buying the Lantus pens instead of the vials. You'll be able to use every last drop in the pens, where with the vials you could end up throwing half away when it loses it's efficacy. Each pen holds 300 units instead of the vial which holds 1000 units
