Hello all!
I have been giving bast his shot in the scruff at the very back of his neck. (that's the spot the vet shaved for me)
However I still has several shaved spots from the vet. One is the side scruff of his neck. can ou give shots on more of the scuff than the center back?

It is actually better to inject the insulin further down the cat's back, along his or her flanks. The insulin is absorbed more consistently there, as opposed to shooting in the scruff of the neck.

Does your cat have extremely long fur? You don't need to shave the area first where you inject; in fact, you should not really be injecting in the same spot each time, it is far better to alternate sites from the cat's let flank to its right etc. This not only comes back to absorbtion of the insulin, but also stops kitty from getting too sore by being jabbed in the same place over and over; it gives each site a chance to heal.

Just part your kitty's fur, make a litle tent, and inject into the parted area you have created in the wall of the tent.

Hi Misty,

As Helene has suggested, it is possible to inject cats along their flank - or basically anywhere where there is loose skin. However, not all cats will tolerate this: Mine doesn't, and I have the scars to prove it! nailbite_smile So I've injected into the scruff for nearly 6 years and, fortunately, have had no problems with insulin absorption (insulin onset in my cat seems consistently to begin after an hour and 45 minutes). I inject either in the middle of the scruff or over either shoulder blade, wherever I can grab a handful of loose skin, and I try to vary the actual site from shot to shot whenever possible.
