Yay... we did it! Albeit a little quietly ... Scooter has completed his OTJ trial (a day early)

I am doing it a day early because, well, it's Friday and I need an excuse to go out and have a little fun. It's been an incredibly stressful past few weeks for me with my sister passing away on the 4th and recently starting a full time job.

I am a teensy tiny bit worried that this remission wasn't as strong as it could have been and he may relapse, but for now, I'm going to sit back and let Mr. Pancreas do his job.

Thanks so much for your support everyone!

I have posted these pictures before, but here's Scooter before he started treatment for his diabetes and now, after being regulated on low carb/Lantus:

Yaaay Scooter and congratulations! That face of his is one of the best kitteh faces ever!

Congrats to you and Scooter. He is so beautiful!!!! I was reading Scooter's spreadsheet from earlier this year where you posted, on January 1: "Here's to a year of good health"... and that wish appears to have come through for Scooter. I am very happy for him, and thank you for caring enough to help those of us who are new to the board with advice and encouragement. It is appreciated!

Riley (and Scooter),
I am so happy for both of you! I remember the day you first posted at the end of last year. I love to go back when I see an "OTJ" post and read the very first thread that someone posted. I hope you don't mind my quoting you...

I think I would feel a lot differently about the situation if I had an actual attachment/bond to Scooter, but I don't...
I remember that you pretty had him dumped in your lap, unaware that he was diabetic, and that you had to use the bus to get him to his first vet visits. I remember how hard that was on you, but you dealt with it. And did so amazingly!

In that very first post, you received a ton of advice. But one post in particular, I think, was priceless.
Dear Scooter's Mom,
I thought I would let you know something you might not believe right now but that most folks here would whole heartedly agree with.
Feline Diabetes is a gift in disguise.
Now before you think I'm some wacko hear me out.
Every single one of us has noticed an amazing bond develope between ourselves and our sugar kitties.
That is part of what happens while you treat him.
Bonding. Like no other.
And then there is the board.
You will find so much help, real concrete help...and love and support here on the board.
Sugar kitties moms and dads...well, what can I say, you start treating your kitty and you are just considered family here.
That is it.
You are family.
I happen to have supplies I can send you. Meter, strips, lancets, a rice sockie to warm the ear, a couple of high end cat nip toys...home made of course.
Feline Diabetes is not a death sentence...nor is it a very big deal to treat.
But treat you shall.
It is a gift.
You can't see that now.
My diabetic boy became the most special animal I've ever known in my life.
Please give this a chance.
You will not regret it.

I think it is safe to say that you, just like every one of us, found that "bond" that was missing. I know that I didn't realize how important Bob is to me until after he was diagnosed. And today, more so than ever.

Enjoy this moment, and every day that comes,

Carl

yay!! Go out tonight and celebrate!! No one ever knows how long OTJ will last, it's not a guaranteed amount of time .. So enjoy it, embrace it, and know you guys did this!

Thanks so much everyone :-D Yes Carl I remember the things I said but I'd rather not lol

Scooter had a nice AMPS of 81 today. Food should bring it down a notch!

Way to go Scooter! I LOVE your facial tattoo, buddy.
Stay off the juice. Your fur looks so much healthier and more vibrant.
Keep up the good work, guys.

Congrats!!!!! I remember when you showed up with Scooter, too--this is a wonderful success story!

I think his numbers look great. Bandit was a little higher than normal in the beginning of his OTJ trials, but it leveled out towards the end. I wouldn't worry about the occasional >120 number as long as it's not too high (<180).

Congratulations!!! This is wonderful. I know I've said it before, but every time I see the pictures, I'm shocked... the difference in his appearance is night and day. Fantastic job to you and Ben.

Congratulations! I read this thread several times and it continues to inspire me. Thanks for sharing your success, enjoy every moment. Your kitty looks great!
