Hi everyone,
Schroeder continues to do well - if you peak at his sheet, you'll see! I feel like he's working his way out of insulin. This brings me to the reason for my post.
He has had diarrhea for 2 days now. Unfortunately for me, he has an aversion to pooping in his box, so he does it NEXT to the box...better than the carpet, I suppose, and I know it's him and not Kane, my civie. I have plans to go away for 4 days over the Easter weekend, and don't want to leave a cat with diarrhea for my neighbour to deal with. So.... any suggestions for how to make it go away. He seems healthy, happy and full of energy otherwise.

Also, I don't know if its related, but when I first put Schroeder on insulin, he had diarrhea in response. I'm wondering if there is a connection to his insulin? And could it be a signal that he is getting too much?

Thanks guys,
Andrea.

Well, his SS is sure looking great! How is he feeling/acting otherwise?

Did you feed anything different in the past few days? New food? Has this happened before?

Jeddie has diarrhea like that from food that has egg, or egg product in it. So, of course, I avoid all foods with those ingredients and that seems to do the trick. I have been adding a probiotic and enzymes to their diet for a while now and I think that helps too, but it seems like every once in a while one of them (I have 4) has loose stools once. I'm not sure what this is about as it doesn't last and I can't track it to anything.

Fortiflora might help Schroeder, but it usually takes several days to work. Can you put a lot of layers of newspaper down so your neighbor only has to fold up the top layers and toss them?

No new food.Good idea about the news papers! Like i mentioned, it's happened before when I've started the insulin. Not sure if it's related to insulin dose (too much?) or something unrelated. Hope it goes away soon. Should i take up all food for 24 hours? Seems like a long time without eating. How have others dealth with this?

I don't think it is related to too much insulin as he doesn't look like he is rebounding. I would not stop food. Not a good idea for a cat, especially a diabetic. Cat's can't go without food the way a dog can.

If it were me I would try Fortiflora and make sure everything I fed him was long time standards. If that didn't work then I might try changing the food - slowly. Did you look at the labels for egg product? The other thing my vet said when I called her about Jeddie was that catnip can cause runs in some cats - that's fresh catnip that is eaten. She though that it was more likely intestinal upset from food - like a food sensitivity or IBD. I made sure he got no catnip for 2 weeks and stopped the foods with egg in them. I was feeding those intermittently as I had 3-4 foods I alternated. That's how I figured out it was the eggs.

What do you feed him?

No fresh catnip. Just the dried nip in pouches that they bat around. He eats Friskies and President's Choice pates, and Evo LC dry food. Could just be a bug. I will check out Fortiflora. Thanks.
