Scary - civvie with possible Flovent/norvasc side effects?

Has anyone ever had a kitty start showing signs of extreme confusion while taking Flovent and/or norvasc? One of my civvies (almost 17) started pacing a lot and showing signs of muscle weakness a few days ago while on these meds, plus Pepcid-AC because she's in CRF. She's been on norvasc the least amount of time, about 6 weeks.

I took her to the vet Saturday for a check, and blood work showed slightly low potassium, so just tonight I started her on RenalK for that. But even over the last several hours, her neurological/mental symptoms have gotten noticeably worse. She normally purrs constantly and is a real people-cat, but now she doesn't even seem to notice us, just has to keep moving constantly. And the worst part is that my husband caught her just in time from trying to jump off the top of our stairwell, through the railing. Now we've confined her to a small bedroom.

We looked this up online, and memory effects are listed as a rare side effect for both norvasc and Flovent, but of course those stats are all for humans. We're planning to take her off all meds starting tomorrow, pending response from the vet.

Has anyone seen this happen?

I'm so sorry you ad kitty are going through this. My kittyboy Waldo was on flovvent but never had side effects. Sorry I'm not more help.

Poe has been on Flovent now for 2 months, and was on it prior about 5 years ago, for asthma.

I've never noticed any reactions to the Flovent, but did notice that he gets a little woozy after an Albuterol treatment.

Vet has never mentioned side affects to Flovent either. Wish I was more help.

Thanks for the responses. Hubby and I are leaning toward thinking the issue is more with the norvasc rather than Flovent, because the manic behavior seems to worsen shortly after taking it (once a day dose), then subside. Last night I gave her the meds around 10 PM, and she got worse after that, then finally settled down to rest about 3 AM. This morning, she was purring again and actually crawled into hubby's lap for a minute, a marked contrast to last night.

I hope there's another med for BP that we can give her instead. The other question is whether it's a side effect of norvasc by itself, or the combo.

Thank you for the update. I'm glad to see she is feeling a bit better and that maybe you are closer to a conclusion. Will keep kitty in my prayers.
