I need to start monitoring my cats weight and was wondering if anyone can make a recommendation for a specific baby scale that works well with cats? I'm looking for consistent accuracy with the lowest price tag possible. Babys R Us has one for about $60 but the reviews seem very mixed. What do you guys use?

I have been researching this. Many of the postal scales will not fit a cat on them, you have to use a carrier or box and tare it to zero and then put the cat on. If you think your cat wont sit willingly on the scale until you get a weight, then you may have to do that anyway. Make sure it can weigh the weight of a box/carrier and cat.

Many of the cheaper baby scales under 100 dollars worried me..there was a Redmon deluxe baby scale that had horrible reviews on Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/Redmon-Weigh-Grow ... 770&sr=8-4

and it was listed several different ways different places but it was clearly the same scale. theres another baby scale that IS the exact same scale but had different names...same manufacturer of scale, sold by different retailers under different names. That concerned me. I also could not find many reviews of the less expensive scales.

Even tho its more expensive than i wanted to pay.. I found this one. I will be ordering one soon.

Quick Medical makes Summit scales, and they seem to have a good rep. I did not find any reviews because its only sold here. They warrantee it for a year which I did not see mentioned on some of the cheaper scales.

Sabian is under 11lbs so I use my Oxo kitchen scale with her favorite cardboard box zeroed on top of it. She has absolutely no problems with weighing that way either. In fact, she'll jump in the box when I put it on the scale without prompting even. The others are all over 11lbs so I use my bathroom scale while holding them and subtract my weight.

This one on Amazon:

Got it a couple of months ago for Todd, works great! No problems with it. I check it every once in a while to make sure it's accurate (I have a 8lb and 10lb weight I use) always spot on! And it disassembles for easy storage. And hey, free shipping!

After posting this question last night I found this scale on Amazon. LOTS of great reviews, and the price is very nice. :) I think this is the one, thanks!

I've been using my bathroom scale but wanted something more accurate (that weighs ounces). I have a postal scale too but my kitty doesn't like sitting boxes and it's just too small (only about 6"x6").

I use the Salter-Electronic linked above. My cats sit on it just fine, and it only takes a couple seconds of them sitting still to get a weight.

I agree with having a scale that is more accurate than using a human scale and doing the subtraction. Having an accurate scale is a 'must have' for me.

I put links to two scales on my Obesity page the "Implementing a Safe Weight Loss" section. One is a Salter so the link may have already been provided for you.

Thanks Lisa, I actually just ordered the Salter scale online, it should here Friday. And thank you for your amazing website, it has helped me TREMENDOUSLY! :-D
