Hi everyone:
I’d like to introduce myself and my sugar cat Asher. Many of you know us already (uh-oh) since there seems to have been this giant influx of folks onto this board from PZI recently and not so recently.

We have been on ProZync for a year and a half, and thru many ups and downs I feel we are not getting decent duration and Asher spends too much time above the renal threshold. I think we really gave PZI a good shot. I want better for him so we are going to one of the L’s.

My vet has agreed to switch us to Lantus. He uses entirely PZI at his practice. But he doesn’t know too much about the ins and outs of the L's, so I am sending him a bunch of info by email today, and including some info on Lev too.

All that being said, last night we had a lovely nadir in the low 100s and an amps of 212 this morning. But if you check out Asher’s spreadsheet you will see this may not last. He had a dental in January (second one within a year), with good numbers while he was still on the drugs, then bad numbers after that. We were “regulated" much of last year but are not sure how much since we used a Freestyle meter, and don’t know when the strips were changed, which showed us numbers lower than he actually was. Denise is the one who tipped us off to that.

So it’s been a long road but we must press ahead, and I am hoping you guys will hold our hand and paw to start out. I will keep everyone posted of when we actually change, but wanted to say hi for now, and gather any info you guys might like to add to the mix.

Thanks so much in advance!
Donna and Asher

Hey Donna!

I'm at work but just wanted to say welcome & I've missed seeing that handsome boy's face! I just wanna kiss him!

Well I have mentioned both to him, and he said “I have a colleague that is getting good results with Lantus”. So I presumed Lantus was how we were going to go. But...I just emailed him a load of links and info about both insulins.
He only has prescribed PZI in his practice currently.

I think we need a longer lasting insulin, but don’t know which would be better for Asher. The only thing I have read is Lev may have a later nadir, other than that I do not know much about either insulin....but I’m willing to learn

I will see him in person next Wed, and I think that is when we will hash out what we are going to do. I have to take my civvie Alby in for his yearly check up so I am sure we will talk about Asher while I am there too. He is 45 mins away from me, so he is cool about me emailing and calling him for small things or questions, etc.

Hello Donna and Asher!

I hope you can talk your vet into trying Levemir. It really seems to be gentler for a lot of cats than lantus - this is based on several lantus folks switching to lev and finding that their cat acts better on lev. And it also seems to stop the bounces that some cats get going on with lantus.

I switched to lev (from vetsulin) because it was ph neutral, less fragile than lantus so the pen cart could be used to the end, and had just as good results. I have been very happy with it.

Hi Donna! Hope to see you become a regular over here (regardless of which L you change to). From Libby's first run w/ low numbers, there are a lot of experienced eyes over here helping - even if you don't see daily threads here.

Are you home for a while now??? or heading back out to Chi-town again soon?

Tom is home with Asher (and Alby too) but I leave for a quick trip to D.C. tomorrow. Will be back Thurs. No Chicago in the plans now, but you never know. Thankful for work but it’s been a lot of running lately. Just how it goes.

Oh, and I posted over on PZI... Asher had good numbers last night and today so far. He just seems to KNOW when I want to make a change, so he’s gonna behave

Hi there Donna! And its so lovely you are bringing Asher aboard to the L's (which ever one you get  )

Welcome aboard.

Hellllloooooooo, Donna and Asher!!

I posted on your thread in PZI-Land, so I won't bore you with a repeat. You know we switched to Lev, can't tell you for sure why, but it seemed right. As I said, my vet only uses ProZinc and not in small doses, but gave us the prescription for Lev anyway. Hoping to be able to show her disputable progress by his appt 7/13.

I hope Asher shows improvement on whichever insulin you decide on. Take care and keep us posted!

Libby (and Hershey, too!)
