Most of you don't know this, but Boo Radley is only 1 of 7 in our home. He has 4 canine brothers and sisters and 2 feline brothers.

Today, we said goodbye to a very special member of our family - Simon; our 15 year old black Lab. It's something we've been struggling with; to know the right time to do the right thing.

So today, we laid in my front yard, under a beautiful 400 year old oak, with the breeze blowing and the sun shining and said goodbye to my dear sweet friend. He laid on his bed, eating steak and raw eggs, having ice cream and even a red velvet cupcake. We held his head in our lap as he fell gently to sleep. My heart is empty and lost, but also at peace; his struggle is over and now he can rest.

These are some of my favorite pictures.

This was his favorite spot...sitting on the porch, watching the ducks and geese in the pond.

(((Jessica))) I am so sorry. Fly free Simon rb_icon

What sweet photos. (one is not showing "favorite spot"). I love the one with Boo on the loveseat.

15 is a very respectable age for a big dog. And what a wonderful send off.

Jessica - I'm so sorry for the loss of your Simon. What a touching good-bye.

Praying for comfort in the days and nights ahead -

Jessica, what a beautiful way to say goodbye to Simon, in the midst of his loving family, after eating a feast fit for a king. He was a handsome boy, and will always be alive in your memories. RIP Simon.

Jessica,

So sorry to hear of your loss of Simon. !5yrs old for a lab is awesome! I know he was part of your family and that was such a hard choice. But sounds like you gave him a wonderful goodbye and will always be a part of your heart!! I have an almost 12yr old golden retriver that is my "1st child" and can't imagine having to say goodbye to her. I don't think she will make it to her 12th birthday; getting so old and feeble. I just pray, like you, that i will know the right time to say goodbye and be as brave as you are.

I give you lots of hugs and great memories in the days ahead. I know they will be hard!!

Jessica -

My heart breaks for you and your family today. No matter how "right" the time is to say good-bye, it's never easy. I'm sure he knew how loved he was, and enjoyed his life with you up til the very end. God Bless you all!

Jessica,
I'm SO sorry it was Simon's time to cross - I hope he and my Harley that crossed Tuesday have found each other and will discover the wonderful new world together. It makes me smile thinking of them together, 2 happy smiling bouncy big boys not alone.....I hope it gives you a bit of a smile too.

BIG HUGE HUG to all of you,

I am so sorry for the loss of Simon. What a beautiful way to help your beloved baby pass. My heart breaks for you and yours.

Oh Jessica, what a beautiful tribute to Simon! I love the one of him with Pilgrim. The first one actually shows up correctly when I scroll down during this reply! The one Sheila mentioned must be a broken link.

I also think 15 is an incredible age for a Lab. What a testament to how much you loved him that his last moments with you were outside in the breeze and he got to enjoy his favorite things.

Fly free, handsome Simon. rb_icon
