Hi all,

I had to say goodbye to Nellie this weekend. Lap of Love came by and gave her a gentle farewell.

Around the end of September, her numbers started to spike after being well regulated and earning reductions. Then she started vomiting more frequently and having diarrhea. She got on Ondansetron, Cerenia, and Gabapentin (thanks to what I've learned from this forum) after being diagnosed with pancreatitis and her symptoms got a little better. However, she had an ultrasound last Tuesday that showed a mass in her intestines/diffuse thickening, enlarged lymphnodes, enlarged adrenal glands, and a nodule on her pancreas. All in all, she was a mess and was diagnosed with large cell lymphoma and possible Cushings.

She went downhill pretty quickly after the ultrasound. I took a step back and realized she had been struggling all year, but I'd been fighting so hard that I couldn't see it. Rather than put her through the torture of more vet visits - she is terrified of going to the vet and frequently needs to be sedated - my vet and I agreed it was time.

I wanted to thank everyone on this forum for helping me through those first scary months, from doing all nighters - especially @Bandit's Mom @tiffmaxee @Wendy&Neko @Bron and Sheba (GA) - with me to just welcoming me (looking at @SaraMV @Diane Tyler's Mom @Hendrick Cuddleclaw ). I felt like I was flying blind when she first got diagnosed, and I can't really describe how much relief this forum offered. I always appreciate science-backed discussions, and I truly think without FDMB Nellie would've gone to the hospital with DKA or a serious hypo. Thank you for helping me take care of my baby girl.

I'm saying goodbye for now, but I'm sure I'll be back one day. Leaving you with a picture of Nellie (hopefully it works) in her bed, on a chair next to mine while I worked. Her favorite spot.

She went out with a belly full of delicious high carbs and many Churus, including a Chicken flavor she got to try for the first time. I will always miss her.

Hugs and kisses to all the sugar cats out there.

You did all the right things Laura. Now there are no more trips to the vet, no more poking and no pain. She would have thanked you for that.
Nellie looks like she could have been Marco's sister. :bighug:

{{{{Laura}}}} I am so sorry it was Nellie's time to earn her wings. :bighug::bighug::bighug: I'm glad you were able to decide the time and place. You obviously loved that beautiful girl and I'm sure she knew it.

Do take care of you too. Caring for a kitty with multiple conditions is hard. Be gentle to yourself.

Thank you all - it's been so very hard.

Hugs to all, and extra love to @SaraMV - so sorry to see you lost your beautiful boy too.

so sorry for your loss, there are no words that are enough. I wish you the best, enjoy fond memories of the good times you had with your furry friend.
