Sending healing vines for Patches, to get over the hump and start feeling a little better today.

She is about the same. Her numbers are looking better, but she is not really acting better; probably because of the cold. She was 273 last night and gave her 2u. Her numbers were 224 this morning and gave her 2u.

Started 50mg amoxi twice a day for her congestion last night per doctor. She did a sneeze this morning when trying to syringe feed the RS. I think that is a good sign, she never did that before. Maybe the amoxi is doing something....

I want to thank whoever mentioned the Royal Canin RS food. It is the best to syringe and she doesn't seem to be spitting out too much now that I go in from the side of her mouth. She is still not getting as much as I would like, but it is a start. I hate to stress her out. She is still drinking some and peeing on her own.

Keep prayers coming PLEASE - she needs them.

I'm glad to hear she's on amox.... You can usually see an improvement within 24 hours

someone suggested l-lysine powder to add to the syringe food....know where i can get this? i found it on chewy but it is 11.95 and you have to pay 4.95 shipping.

Patches! You kept me up all night. We're getting there minute by minute. I think you said she was up around 600 in your first thread, now 224 so we know the insulin is working. She sneezed so she's making the effort to clear herself out. She's taking in food and drinking water, all good. When a cat finally gives up they don't drink water and sometimes just pee in the basket. Patches is a fighter! You're right, it's a start but with a little luck we're on our way.
Patches Momma, you need to be 100% for this. Immitrex inhalers will kick the crap out of migraines. Just trying to help.

I would try to get at least one 5.8 oz can per day into her.

Sending more prayers and healing vines

Have you ever tried chicken liver? Warm one up for just a few seconds in the micro, not too long or they explode, not pretty! They smell and most of my cats love them even when their appetite is off.

OK guys....went to health food store and got this. Couldn't find powder, so got 500mg capsules and i can open them up and pour out stuff - now how much do i give her?? She is not eating much, but.....also, just happen to buy her a new bed..........!!

Patches is so beautiful! I love her. .
I don't know about the l-lysine capsules as I always gave these Vetri Lysine Plus. The ingredient list on the package says there are 250mg of L-lysine in 2 chews, and the directions say to give 1 or 2 chews daily, so that would be 125mg for 1 chew and 250mg for 2 chews.
If your capsules are 500mg each, then maybe try with 1/4 capsule twice a day, or 1/2 capsule once per day? Make sure she's eating enough food, like aim for 200 calories per day, if you can. I know you're assist feeding.

Gave Patches her amoxi at 6pm….

I was just eating some garlic cheese bread. She smelled it and was standing up!!!!!

I was hopeful and gave her can of food and she smelled it again and i thought she was Ggoing to eat, but did not. BUT this is first time she has shown any interest in food. I wish she would have at least licked it, but..........baby steps.....

I am going to put the lysine in her syringe food. She is not eating anything, so that is my only choice. I know she is not getting as much food as she should be but she gets so stressed, we are doing it slowly so she at least gets something. I saw it had rice flour in it also...that is going to spike her numbers though, right????

See if she will take it off your fingers

no, she wont. :( I am not one of her favorite people these days......i have the food in the fridge, so i warm it before putting into the syringe. I had her in the "burrito" hold today to try and keep more of it in her mouth without her fussing around so much.

You're doing a great job. Have you tried putting FortiFlora on the food?

No, but I was told to use L-Lysine powder, but couldn't find powder, so got 500mg capsules and i can open them up and pour out stuff - now how much do i give her?? She is not eating much, but...I was gonna sprinkle some in the food before I syringed it. It has rice flour in it so that is carbs though, right?

I don't know anything about lysine.... Sorry. Have you Google it?

I mentioned the FortiFlora because many cats find it irresistible. I give it to my cat with digestive issues who had lost weight. Since using it a month now I can see she's put on a little weight and is enjoying her food more.

Do you give b12 methylcobalamin? That helps some cats with appetite as well.

I'm not sure about powder, but I can get L-Lysine tablets down at my local Rite Aid in the supplements section.
Hope everything is going well. Sending positive thoughts and well-wishes. <3

Well, the amoxi seems to be having a good effect on the insulin. Her numbers this morning were 224 - 9am - gave her 2u. 4pm spot tested and she was 160. Just tested now and she was 207 and gave her 2u. She has been sleeping/resting in her new bed since 6pm when I gave her the amoxi. (It is 9pm now)...I basically did her testing now and insulin and she showed no interest in me!!!!

KEEP ALL THE PRAYERS COMING - SHE IS STILL NOT OUT OF THE WOODS!!!!

she seems worse congested and wheezy today. could the amoxi be doing this? i took her in bathroom today with hot water for the steam. she liked it at first but then she wanted to go.

Do you have a nebulizer at home? Maybe the congestion is breaking up. Can you set up a vaporizer or humidifier in the room?

little nose and eye accumulation. little bit of sneezing, no coughing
Does the wheezing sound like it's from her nose or lungs? Like is it a stuffy nose or lung congestion? Is she drinking enough? Maybe saline drops in her nose could loosen some of the mucus?

Maybe I am wrong but I thought L-Lysine was for herpes. I have a kitty who is FIV+ and on the Yahoo group FIV Health Science this is talked about often. Forgive me if I am wrong.
