His diabetes was regulated and I have this board to thank for that. I have never found such a wealth of information in once place and he tested at 126 two days a go.

Two weeks a go he had fluid in his lungs and could barely breath. they drained it and he was doing okay until last night he started leaking fluid from his abdomen through his skin.

Took him in today and after more bloodwork they found he's in the last stages of liver failure and recommended he be put to sleep.

So that's what happened. I'm devastated. I only had him for two months but I don't think I've ever been so upset about the loss of a pet. I had such hope for him especially after regulating his diabtes, which I mistakenly thought was his biggest problem.

So I have about 90 test strips and Relion meter and some lancets that came with it that I can send to someone or to put in the program that gives them away free if anyone knows the address or I'll look for it later when I'm in a better mind state.

Thanks everyone for the support and it's been amazing to see how his diabetes went into remission with the advice of the board.

Awww, God bless him and you for taking him in, treating his diabetes, and giving him a home and love. I know it was a short time but to Saul it was a lifetime. Just so sad he wasn't given more time with you. You have my deepest sympathy on the loss of Saul. Some cats just really tug at the heartstrings and Saul was one of those. At least he knew love from you wings_cat

Saul is enjoying his new wings and waiting patiently for the bean that saved him and loved him. My sincere condolences on the passing of your dear friend.

((JenJee)) I didn't post on your original thread - you received all the good pertinent advice you needed - and you used it so well. What a gift of love you gave to Saul by taking him in and getting him regulated on the insulin - his last days were filled with love because of you and I'm sure he knew how much you loved him.

Sadly, we sometimes don't know what's going on in these little bodies until it's too late - the years had apparently already taken a toll on this little boy. What a cutie he was - no wonder he worked his way into your heart so quickly.

I am so sorry that he had other problems and was unable to stay with you - sometimes these kitties with special needs tug at our heartstrings more so in a short time. There's a bond that develops with these extra sweet "sugar kitties" which almost everyone on this board will attest to. It's talked about often - they seem to know we are trying to help them and I'm sure Saul knew it.

We all mourn the loss of one of our furry companions - whether they're with us a short time or a long time, so we feel your sadness. I'm sure that you built several wonderful memories with Sweet Saul while you had him and I'm hoping those memories will make you smile through your tears. I'm sending many comforting thoughts your way - bless you for seeing to it that Saul left knowing he was loved and not suffering.

Thank you all so very much. It's funny how people say "I know nothing I say can make it better" but your words do actually make me feel a tiny bit better, even if it's just a tiny bit, it's still something and I thank you all. I am pretty devastated and am going through that stage where you look for them, call for them before the realization hits that they are no longer there. I know every pet owner has been through this and I know it will get better in time.

I also wanted to mention that I did find a home for the meter and strips. It's going to a woman who has a newly diagnosed cat and the vet has the cat on more insulin than recommended for this board, and also discouraged home testing. She wants to do it anyway (though won't listen to me on much else because she loves her vet) but at least with the meter hopefully the kitty won't be sent into hypo.

Thanks all again. All the heartache, expense, time and energy was worth it in hindsight. It was what I had to do, I had to try at least.
