Tom just got a present from a neighbor. A tin of sardines. They are in soybean oil and contain salt and natural smoke flavor (whatever the heck that is)
Is this ok for him?
Don't know if they are okay for him... What's the carb count on the tin?
But it sounds like he has a Valentine in the neighborhood. Are you sure his middle name isn't Romeo. =)
Oh honey Romeo has always been his middle name. A cool cat, very indifferent and it drives the girls crazy! carb count..hmmmmm
no mention of anything like carbs, fat, protein vitamins... it's Beach Cliff Sardines from san diego.
I suppose I could google it.
The salt content could be a bit high for him; you might want to limit the amount given at any time and mush up with some water.
Another way to deal with the salt is put the sardines in some water with slices of peeled potato, heat, and the potato will draw up some of the salt. Let cool and he can have the sardines; you'll have fish stock for chowder!
i am concerned about salt, too.
Many of canned food for human is even too salty to me, I have to add water or simply refuse to eat them....
After all of blood and tear with the diabetes diagnoses, I will not feed my cat any of that....
I just looked at the salt content on the sardines and the salt content on a can of human-grade tuna in water, same percentage of sodium in both. If you let Tom have a little tuna every now and then for a treat I would think a sardine here and there would be fine too.
