Sam's watery eye

Hi folks,

I have a couple questions. I uploaded a picture of Sam; can anyone identify his breed for me (if any). I'm trying to figure out what his ideal weight should be, I think he's getting a bit on the heavy side. Which is far better than he was 3 months ago when he was diagnosed, he was just 9.5 lbs. He's now about 12.

I was also wondering if anyone has any advice regarding his eye. His right eye has always watered; my parents had taken him to the vet in 2018 and the vet said that he must've been eating plants (which is crap because we had no plants in the house, he's an indoor cat, and the eye watering has continued on and off since then).

Recently it started watering a lot more than it had been. I use a warm compress to gently wipe away the gunk/crust that develops. Could this be a respiratory thing? He has a tendency to sneeze sometimes as well. It's only ever been his left eye that's watered. I'm not sure what could be causing this.

It is possible the affected eye could have a blocked tear duct which can be fixed with a small procedure by the vet.
I would ask a more interested vet about it.
I would have thought, if it had been a respiratory issue, both eyes would be involved.

Thanks; i don’t use that vet anymore after he charged me 600 dollars for an exam/bloodwork. I’ll see if his vet can take a look at it

Could be the herpes virus. My MurrFee had same symptom. Antibiotic eye meds eliminated the problem but when stopped the watering returned. and that was repeatable. I then added L-Lysine to his food and it went away and never returned.

Bobo has the same issue. Both his vet and the IM said it’s allergy related and I did notice it gets worse in spring and fall so it makes sense to me. He also sneezes some times and does hang out in my backyard a lot so is probably exposed to all the allergens in the air just like me.
